DriverHeaven Review

A few days ago we took a look at the Chillmax CPU from Speeze and came away pretty impressed by its looks, noise levels and performance. Its not just CPU coolers that Speeze are manufacturing though, as we noted in our recent Alienware and Rock reviews, modern day performance laptops are running very hot, therefore under sustained use they do benefit from additional cooling.

With this in mind today we are going to be testing the Pacificbreeze cooler from Speeze with our P4 3.6ghz/Radeon X800 based Rock laptop and recording any temperature improvements.

The Pacificbreeze

Features:

*Ultra Silent Fans
*Adjustable Fan Speed
*2 Ball Bearing Blue LED fans
*Built-in High Speed 2-Port USB 2.0 Hub
*Ergonomic Design
*Compatible With Any Notebook
*Rubber Feet For Secure & Stable Grip
*Reduces Heat Damage To Desks & Laps

The Pacificbreeze comes in a box which provides ample description and images of the unit contained within.

Driverheaven uses custom javascripts to display high resolution images, some software may class these as popups

Inside the box you find the cooler and a USB cable, the cable is more than adequate in length for use in this system, we certainly cant think of any reason you’d need a longer cable.

Here is the top view of the PacificBreeze, you can see the two 70mm fans on covered by metal grills, there are also a couple of LED’s between the fans that signal the operating mode when powered on. The fans as well as being low noise, light up blue during operation. Finally there are some rubber pads which provide much needed stability.

At the rear of the unit is the two setting power switch, the PacificBreeze cooler runs at 2100rpm when on setting one and 2600rpm on setting two. Setting one gives 19.5db and on setting two its 25.2dBa. In terms of air movement this equates to 19.2cfm and 23.8cfm respectively.

As you can see from the above picture the rear of the unit also houses the USB ports. One port for connecting the USB cable to your laptop for power, the other for connecting a usb device so that you don’t have less usb connectivity when using the unit.

The underside of the unit is sparcely populated with only some rubber feet attached.

The front of the PacificBreeze features the vents which expel the air from the system, the idea behind the cooler is that cool air is drawn in through the fan grills on the top of the system and is blown out through the vents to the underneath of your laptop. This cool air then cools the chassis of your laptop and if applicable is drawn in through any fans/vents on the base of your system.

Here is a shot of the PacificBreeze when installed under the system, as you can see the laptop sits on a slope when the cooler is installed.

Conclusion

The SpeezePacific breeze is a great little cooler, so many things could have gone wrong in the design of the unit such as: loud fans, heavy components and requiring additional external power. Credit must go to Speeze though as none of these are issues. The PacificBreeze is incredibly light and you’ll not notice anything different when carrying it about with your laptop and as I type this article I’m using the unit on setting two and its inaudible over ambient and laptop noise, it really is that quiet.

As the performance figures show there is also a decent temperature benefit to be had from using the PacificBreze. Not only was our hot running laptop cooler, the desk underneath was also much cooler. There are two additional benefits to using the system, the first is that if your laptop fans are not the quietest models they are less likely to turn on due to the additional air circulation keeping the chassis cooler. Finally as we mentioned above your laptop will sit on a slope, in our opinion this is a great feature as it results in a more comfortable typing position, more similar to a normal keyboard, a benefit so good that the Pacificbreeze is worth buying for this alone.
