Conclusion

For the price (£75/$99), the Altec Lansing FX4021 are a great set of multipurpose speakers. The system is small enough to fit in most computer rooms but with a level of sound suitable to power a living room entertainment system. The versatility of the unit through connecting to any 3.5mm cabled device is ideal and we were able to test with PCs, game consoles and MP3 players.

A particular highlight of the set was the ability to connect the Xbox 360 to the speakers and obtain a much more powerful sound than would be possible via most TV sets.

Overall the sound quality of the FX4021s is very good and whilst the default settings only seem to suit acoustic music, the option to enhance the sound through various settings on the control module means that every genre of audio is catered for.
