Oblivion
has been out for a while now, yet it is still
one of the best looking games available. With
the recent release of Shivering isles gamers around
the world got a new reason to journey to Tamriel,
so once again Bethesda’s behemoth RPG is
a perfect candidate for our performance analysis.

We
decided to start our testing as high as we dared
to go. Judging by the results we hit the jackpot.
The 8600GT performed admirably when AA was disabled,
which is quite shocking when one remembers that
just under a year ago only the best cards were
capable of such performance. The picture changes
somewhat with AA enabled, but keeping in mind
who the card is targeted at it’s easy to
understand the low performance. Using a lower
(and more standard) resolution of 1280x1024 was
all it took to boost the framerates by approximately
10 frames per second.
