Tomb Raider Anniversary
In our last review we were pleasantly surprised by the high performance of the 8600 in the new Tomb Raider title. What better way to judge the performance of these cards than in a game where the framerates aren’t sub-20 all the time. And there is no denying that the game looks, feels and plays well – Lara Croft never did look this good, we can tell you that.
You might have noticed by now that the two chipsets in play here are constantly switching the lead. This time around the nVidia cards are again in the front, and surprisingly enough even the Zotac card with its slow shader clock manages to beat the ATI card at 1024x768. At 1280x1024 the Zotac and the ATI card exchanged positions, but the XFX card remained in a clear lead. Playability wise all three cards delivered a solid experience at 1024x768, and even at 1280x1024 things weren’t bad. The Zotac card and the HD2400 did experience some hiccups, which are clearly reflected in the low minimum framerate figure, but most of the time both managed to stay in the mid-20 range.
