Conclusions
They say
numbers don't lie, and I believe that includes benchmarks
as well: the card is wicked fast, and its owners
are going to enjoy extreme speeds coupled with extreme
image quality. What we liked about the card is the
minimum performance penalty we got as we upped the
Anti-aliasing and Anisotropic Filtering levels;
a “feature” that characterizes the entire
X1000 series of cards by ATI, and is attributed
to the advanced memory controller these cards have.
Club3D has got a winner in their hands, since as
we saw from the benchmarks, the card certainly delivers.
Unfortunately
if you expected to overclock this card to hell and
back, you'll be sorely disappointed, since the overclock
we got was modest at best, with end results that
were in line with the clock increases we got. Lost
Coast seemed to gain the most performance increase,
but overall we noticed that, while average fps didn't
change much, the overall feel was much smoother
when we overclocked the card.
So the question
is, is this card worth your hard-earned money? The
answer is a definite yes, but only if you want the
absolute best in performance right now. If you are
looking for a card that will cost you less and will
let you overclock it to higher levels, Club3D’s
Radeon X1900 XT model is a much more attractive
buy in our eyes.
These days
you can find it 50 pounds (or more) cheaper and
we are willing to bet that it will overclock almost
to the levels our XTX was able to overclock. So
all in all, what we have here is a super-fast card,
coming from a vendor that has never given us troubles
in the past, and is known for its quality products.
If that's not a winning combination, I don't know
what is.
Many thanks
to Club3D for providing the card in such a short
notice.
