The units

If not for the sticker on the right side, it is impossible to discern the units apart. They are identical, right down to the weight. The chassis of the X3 units is a bit longer than typical ATX units but almost every computer case should provide the required extra centimeters of clearance. It is possible that some cases with top exhaust fans installed could pose a problem however, so keep that in mind when considering the X3 units. The black paint of the chassis is highly reflective which helps with looks, but makes the units prone to attracting unsightly fingerprint marks.

Both of the units are cooled by a large 135mm fan placed at the bottom side. 135mm fans are used in high end power supply units nowadays to effectively reduce the noise generated by the fan as they require less RPM to deliver the same amount of airflow. The front of the unit is entirely dominated by connectors for the modular cables. Not a single cable is pre-attached to the unit, not even the 24-pin ATX cable which is necessary in every system. At the rear of the unit there is a on/off rocker switch. Excluding the right side of the unit, which is dominated by the sticker with the specifications and certifications, the rest of the unit is entirely clean.

Both

Internally, both of the units appear to be entirely identical. We could only note a small circuit between the two main heatsinks being different. It seems that the only difference of the two units is the slightly stronger 12V line of the 1kW unit. The black heatsinks appear to be somewhat small for units of such output. Every single capacitor in the X3 units bears the Teapo mark which is commonly found in power supply units. They usually aren’t the enthusiast’s first choice however. Teapo capacitors appear to work fine in computer PSUs though and since Ultra is confident enough to offer a lifetime warranty for their units they must be a good match for this particular configuration.
