The
Unit
The
X-Connect VS 700W is not very flashy, but it still
is good looking. All of the unit’s cables
are entirely black and the unit itself is entirely
black as well, save for the manufacturer’s
label at the top. The paint is matte, non-reflective,
which makes the unit very discrete if not invisible
in low-light environments. At the rear of the
unit there is an input voltage switch, a typical
on/off switch and the exhaust 80mm fan.
Looking
at the front of the unit, besides the cable connectors,
we see the intake 80mm fan where air from the
inside of the case is blown inside the unit, cooling
it down and then allowing the rear 80mm fan to
expel it out the back of the case. While this
design is usually noisy, we later found out that
the X-Connect VS is exceptionally quiet under
normal circumstances. The six cable connectors
are identical and you shouldn’t worry if
you connect a cable incorrectly, as all connectors
can be used for any of the included cables.
The
interior of the X-Connect VS 700W unit is exceptionally
similar to the X-Finity 2G 600W unit, but a bit
more organized and better built to take the higher
load. Two large golden heatsinks cover the unit,
right between the airflow of the two fans. We
would like a bit of more attention when routing
the wires, but other than that the used components
and solder joints look good.
