Final words and conclusion

What we did like:

There are a many things to like about the particular Toshiba notebook. One of them is the trubrite WXGA monitor, which provides an exceptional image, hence the HD-to-go sticker which Toshiba placed on the notebook. Despite its high response rates, little to no ghosting was apparently to my eyes. Another strong point of the notebook is the Harman/Kardon speakers, which make a truly good built in audio source. The final and perhaps strongest point of the M70-159 is the connectivity. The integrated WiFi and Bluetooth, along with the LAN, modem and i-Link provide the M70-159 with plenty of user options.

What we did not like:

The only truly negative point of the sample which we received was the amount of RAM installed, to run this machine with 256 megabytes of ram really hinders performance and an upgrade to 1 gigabyte of memory should immediately be considered unless you like waiting continually on hard drive paging. Other minor negative points are the paint on the top lid which is very prone to scratches, and the use of the Intel 2200BG WiFi chip which has certain compatibility problems with several routers and other devices. Those compatibility problems are easily solvable by installing Intel’s management software or through certain device settings, but another wifi option would be preferable.

Who we would recommend it to:

If you are a person who simply likes to have a strong notebook PC with plenty of connectivity options wherever you go, you are going to like the M70-159. It is a great notebook for working on-the-road and people who like to watch movies or play some games are going to love it. Basically it is a machine which does everything very well, but simply does not excel on anything, except perhaps on the connectivity front.

We believe that the Toshiba M70-159 is worthy of our Heavenly Hardware Silver Award. It is a very good all-around notebook with a marvellous monitor, but there are plenty of options around its price range so it cannot be considered unique or a must have purchase.

The average retail price of the Toshiba M70-159 is 1200€ in Europe at the time of this review.
