AMD will present the AM2 socket this summer, which supports DDR2 PC6400 RAM. Intel based motherboards can already use such RAM and so we have most manufacturers entering a ‘memory war’, with every RAM manufacturer trying to design and release high speed DDR2 modules while offering good value as well. This ‘memory war’ seems to get interesting as Super Talent, a less known company among the enthusiast circles, released the (for the time being) fastest PC-6400 2GB kit currently available. The T800UX2GC4 kit consists of two 1GB modules, rated to run at 800MHz DDR and 4/3/4/8 timings.

Many people may think that Super Talent is an entirely new company. That is inaccurate as the company already counts 20 years in the memory industry and has a good R&D and manufacturing facility. Looking at their products line-up you will probably notice that Super Talent seems to focus on Flash products, offering a great deal of different designs and capacities. They even are ranked among the top memory solutions manufacturers in terms of total patents applied under memory device categories for their Flash products. Their DDR and DDR2 modules also come with a lifetime warranty and are 100% stress tested on a motherboard at their rated specifications to ensure quality. The T800UX2GC4 kit that we have for review today is going to be stressed a lot more than that. Let us see what the fastest PC6400 2GB kit can do inside a highly overclocked system.

Manufacturer specifications

• 800MHz DDR2 Over-Clocked Memory For Gaming Enthusiasts
• 2GB (1GB x 2) / (2pcs) 128M x 64, non-Reg., no-ECC, CL 4-3-4-8
• Dual Channel Kit of 2
• Lifetime Warranty

The modules come packed in a small plastic enclosure. There is nothing special about it as it does not even list the detailed specifications of the modules. Concerning the protection of the modules we could say that it is more than enough since the modules are well secured and nearly weightless, hence virtually impossible to damage during shipping. The retail packaging of the modules could use some enhancement if it is to appeal to people who are browsing in a store.

The modules are built on a standard green PCB and have aluminium heatspreaders thermally attached. Although the heatspreaders are simple they certainly add to the aesthetics and are well attached, enhancing the cooling. Of course DDR2 RAM does not get very hot, not nearly as much as DDR modules did, however extra cooling is always welcome and will also lengthen the lifetime of your components. The heatspreaders only have the company logo on one side and a label with their model number, while the other side is completely clean. As the heatspreaders are thermally attached on the chips we did not pull them off and we advice you not to do that also, since you are most likely to pull the chips off along with the heatspreader. We were advised by Super Talent that the modules carry Micron chips. When installed inside a common system the modules will look even better as their brushed aluminium colour will match the colour of heatsinks and motherboard components.
