Once again, the design
of the packaging of the DiamondCool II cooler
is no different from the rest of Spire’s
coolers. Inside the box you will only find a small
leaflet with installation instructions, a tube
of thermal grease and a retention back panel.
Since this cooler is meant only for socket 754/939/940
processors, no special retention brackets or other
items are necessary.
The DiamondCool II cooler
is a fairly large heatpipe cooler, made entirely
out of copper. Its design reminds me of older
Thermalright coolers, with a large solid copper
base, many thin copper fins expanding from it
and heatpipes to help the transfer of the heat
from the copper base to the top of the fins. Here
Spire decided to use a larger, 92mm version of
their spider UV reactive fan. The cable has white
sleeving again, which looks great. The cooler
is heavy, since it is completely made out of copper,
but mostly due to the large solid base. The base
of the cooler is smooth, but not machined down
to a mirror finish and some minor scratches were
present.
The installation of the
DiamondCool II cooler is a breeze. The only thing
that you have to do is remove the stock retention
bracket and install the supplied rear backplate.
Then you simply place the cooler on your CPU (after
applying the needed amount of thermal grease of
course) and screw the cooler in place. Plug in
the fan power cable and you are ready to go.
