Over the USB connection, the MS05 can give a sequential read speed of over 30MB/s and a sequential write speed of about 25MB/s, which is very good for a 2.5” USB drive, though strangely when it comes to random reading the drive loses about 30% of its top speed and only achieves around 20-21MB/s, but the write speed is unaffected. Over the eSATA connection the MS05 does not restrict the performance capabilities of the drive at all, giving us the same performance results we recorded from connecting the drive directly on a SATA port. Using a faster drive with the eSATA connection will certainly give better performance results, but USB speed will be unaffected.
