Half Life 2: Episode 1

Half-Life 2 Episode 1 is the first in a series of games that chronicle events after the end of Half-Life 2. The game engine is Valves “Source” however unlike the original Half-Life 2 valve have progressed on to the more advanced level with the addition of some excellent HDR lighting which combines very well with the existing engine to produce some lovely looking visuals which are at times mind blowing.

There was virtually no difference in performance between the two boards. The 3fps advantage of the PCI-E card in the first test is probably caused by the slower clock speeds of the AGP card. Surprisingly the roles are reversed when the image enhancing are turned off with the Sapphire card taking a slight lead.

During our testing we noticed that the notorious sound stuttering bug was more noticeable on the AGP card for some reason. This can probably be attributed to the slower transfer speeds of the AGP bus, as the PowerColor board had the disadvantage on paper due to only 256Mb of memory.
