Shown above is the system
with the main cover removed. The components are
well laid out and there are no loose wires or
parts anywhere. Along the top of the image is
the Xtreme CTX’s main cooler which is responsible
for keeping the T2600 and X1800 XT temperatures
under control.
Removing the main Copper
heatsink reveals the two components mentioned
above, the CPU and GPU. The T2600 (core duo 2.16ghz)
is on the left with the X1800 XT (550mhz/650mhz)
on the right, both had an adequate volume of thermal
paste applied, which is always good to see.
It is often the case that
opening a review system reveals one of the reasons
a manufacturer has been able to keep costs to
a reasonable level and that is the choice of “budget”
memory. In the case of the Xtreme CTX Rock cannot
be accused of this as they have included some
decent Corsair modules (2x512mb) rated as PC-5300
with timings of 5-5-5-15.
The final components visible
in the CTX are the motherboard chipset and wireless
LAN card. The Rock system uses Intel’s 915
chipset and Wireless Pro (A/B/G) card.
