The Case
The Rhodium is certainly a large case and the oversized front panel makes it look even larger. We received the silver version, but the Rhodium also comes in black. The front door of the Rhodium covers the entire front part of the case and is made out of aluminum. Unfortunately the hinges are plastic and they will not take much abuse.
The front door is divided in the middle by a plastic tube which lights up blue when the case is running. At the lowest part of the door we can see 8 triangular cuts and the Revoltec logo down at the lowermost part of the door. Because the aluminum door is apparently quite heavy, its support could not be left to the plastic push-pins which secure the faceplate on the chassis, so Revoltec added two small screws at the top of the case which need to be removed prior to pulling the front panel out.
The Rhodium has its front connectivity ports at the top of the case, near the faceplate. This is exceptionally convenient for people who place their case at the floor. There are two USB ports, microphone and headphones jacks, an eSATA port and a Firewire port. The top part of the case which also houses those ports is made out of plastic. Although it feels fairly sturdy, it definitely should be made out of aluminum or even SECC steel, since it gives a ‘cheap’ look to the case.
The most interesting part of the faceplate inside the aluminum door is the front 120mm intake fan. Revoltec has a blue LED fan installed, greatly enhancing the aesthetics of the case. The light emitting from the fan can also be seen through the triangular cuts of the door when it’s closed. At the top, over the 5.25” bays, you can find the power and reset buttons and the HDD LED light. The power button is made of plastic and has a blue LED light behind it which will stay on as long as the system is powered on. The reset button however cannot be pressed without a pin or needle.
