Encoding 1 –H.264

NOTE: MSI's X1950XT was used in this test

Something which is guaranteed to fully stress your processor is Video Encoding. For this test we’ve taken a High definition source file (117mb / 1m 50+ seconds) and are converting it to H.264 avi using the latest version of ATI’s Avivo converter. Resolution is kept the same from source>converted file and maximum bit rate is selected.

Encoding 2 -DVD Creation

As well as watching your DVDs on a PC you can also make your own with tools such as Sonic MyDVD. This is a task which is becoming more and more common so with this in mind we have put together an average encoding task which takes 4 350mb (43min) AVI files and re-encodes and resizes them to DVD format. We’ve used Sonic MyDVD v6.1 for this test.

Encoding Performance Summary

If you have read through all of the tests which have featured up to this point in the article it should be clear that there is a bit of a trend developing. Generally the OCZ modules perform as well as the higher spec’d Dominators at DDR2-800 however as soon as we take full advantage of the enhanced speeds available on some motherboards the Dominators begin to shine. The encoding test is no different and again we see the Corsair perform well at DDR2-1066.
