The performance of the OCZ ProXstream 1kW unit is certainly going to make the competition quiver. Not only can it easily reach its maximum load capacity rating with ease, its voltage lines are always above the specifications and the voltage regulation circuit is very responsive and tight. If you expect it to start undervolting or overheating while trying to reach 1kW output, you are going to be disappointed. With only raw performance in mind, it is certainly the best OCZ unit we have tested up to date.
Efficiency wise, the ProXstream unit is certainly giving some of the best numbers we have ever seen. With average load, the efficiency ratio reached 89%. Even when fully loaded, the efficiency didn’t drop below 80%, placing it among the most efficient power supply units we have ever seen as well. But the great efficiency is not the only reason the ProXstream can keep itself so cool. The high speed fan is the other reason. While the 80mm fan is doing a good job keeping the unit cool, it is always audible and becomes loud over 40% load. Over 75% power load it is not loud anymore; it is earsplitting – certainly not a good match for a quiet living room.
