Introduction:

iRiver have had a history of producing high quality digital media products, starting from their original iMP range of MP3 CD players (marketed by Sonic Blue in the US), as well as their SlimX and ChromeX MP3 CD Players that made their mark in America.

It didn’t end there, iRiver created the iFP series, flash based MP3 players, and the iHP series (later renamed H series), hard drive based MP3 players. This brings me to the subject of this review: the H340.

The sleek and compact H300 holds up to 1200(H340)/600(H320) hours of your favorite songs. Plus, you can transfer and store digital pictures and view them on the vivid color display

The H340 is the flagship model of the H series, surpassing its predecessor, the H140 (also known as the iHP140). In fact, I used to have a H140 until the headphone jack broke and I made a warranty claim; from which I received the H340 I am reviewing here today. This will permit me to compare the two devices. Which one will come out on top?

Although this MP3 player isn’t exactly new on the market, I will be able to investigate and comment on newer features added to it via firmware updates since the initial release.

The H340 Model I am reviewing is the international one. The US model differs slightly as it supports syncing with Windows Media Player to support DRM, and lacks the USB host function that the international model has. The list of bundled accessories may differ also.
