Conclusion The observant amongst you will have noticed the lack of overclocking tests in this review. The reason for this is that both the FX-55 and 4000+ samples we received were not stable past 208mhz (1040ht) or in the case of the FX-55 at 14x multiplier. Temps were fine at stock (52oC load) and when attempting overclocking however no change in voltage helped the overclock past 208mhz. For overclocking an A64 we look for at least 215mhz (our FX-53 hits 217mhz or 13x easily on the same system) so the tests have been omitted from this review. Were sure though that retail samples will be better overclockers. One thing is for sure though, even at stock
speeds the FX-55 and A64 4000+ are incredibly fast chips, the
fastest money can buy for many tasks. With only the minimal clockspeed
increases over the previous top end chips things were getting
in danger of being quite stagnant in the high end of the AMD line
(theres no reason for a FX-53 owner to buy either of these chips)
however with the addition of PCI-express for Athlon 64 these chips
are going to be great to upgrade to for all of you who are still
on any type of AGP based system whether it be Intel or AMD.
