Enermax Jazz EB207U (2,5” IDE HDD, USB)

The 2.5” version of the Jazz enclosure is supplied in a small but sturdy cardboard box, with simple but elegant artwork. It offers more than enough protection to the extremely lightweight enclosure. Inside the box you will find only a well written manual, a USB data cable, a second USB power cable (usually necessary with >160GB disks) and a spare screw. Although Enermax also advertises a bag in their website we found none in our package, perhaps because we received an engineering sample product.

The silver 2.5” Jazz enclosure is fairly interesting in terms of design. Its entire body is made out of aluminum, with the top part being a perforated mesh. At the rear of the enclosure we found only the two USB cable connectors, there was no on/off switch. Most of the chassis is made out of aluminum with only minor plastic parts being present, making the 2.5” Jazz enclosure sturdy and lightweight.

Installing a disk inside the 2.5” Jazz enclosure is easy, requiring a Philips screwdriver. There are 4 screws at the bottom of the case which need to be removed prior to opening it. After you remove the screws, you can slide the bottom part open. No screws are required in order to secure the disk; you will just have to slide the disk into the connector and then downwards, locking it in the anti-vibration plastic clips. Afterwards you have to screw the bottom part of the case in place and the 4 rubber feet on the screw heads. This will make the enclosure look much more elegant as it hides the screws completely; however it also could be a problem if you want to replace the disk in the future as the rubber feet won’t stick back in place again once removed.
