Obviously a big chunk of metal can cool reasonably
well when combined with a few case fans and the
temperature above shows the performance of the
GeminII when in “fanless” mode. The
temperatures are a little high for a Core2 CPU
however nothing dangerous to the processor and
the lack of noise may be worth it for those with
sensitive ears. Comparing to another fanless product,
the Thermaltake Sonic Tower Rev.2 we see that
the Cooler Master product has a 4c advantage at
both load and idle.

Moving
to fan mode we have set the GeminII in two configurations.
The first is a one fan install with a single 12cm
1400rpm, 45CFM, 18dBa model attached. The second
is a 2 fan arrangement as we add a 2nd fan of
identical specification to the cooler. Noise levels
when using fans will vary greatly depending on
the model and so we shall not be forming an opinion
on this aspect of the product as it is entirely
down to the specific user. What we can comment
on is the performance of the GeminII compared
to the Sonic Tower which is only able to use a
single 12cm fan.
In
single mode the performance of both coolers is
quite similar, in-fact the idle temps are identical.
If this was the only configuration available then
we would lean towards the Thermaltake cooler being
the preferred product due to its slightly easier
install however the 2 fan mode of the Cooler Master
adds an extra level of performance which is unmatched
by the Sonic Tower.
