Coolermaster is one of the most well known companies who design and produce computer cooling solutions. They emerged over a decade ago and have increased their R&D and production capabilities many times since then. Their current product line-up is vast, ranging from simple OEM CPU coolers and fans to high grade cases and specialized cooling solutions. It is such a special cooling solution which we will take a look at today, the Aquagate Mini R120 (product code : RL-MUA-EBU1), a processor watercooling solution for enthusiasts.

The Aquagate Mini R120 is designed to make watercooling safe and easy for everyone to use. The pump and tank are integrated into the waterblock, the 120mm radiator fits a 120mm fan intake/exhaust like a glove and the whole system is assembled and filled with anti-icing liquid from the factory, which means that you have nothing more to do than install it on your CPU and then inside your case. Naturally many will question the reliability and performance of such a setup, so we will try to answer most questions in this review.

Features

1. Easy-install Combo

* For a more convenient installation, the Combo includes a water block set, radiator, fan, thermal grease, anti-icing fluid, and a water pipe. All of the parts you need are readily available, thereby cutting installation steps and saving your time.

2. Adaptable to many different processors

* Universal retention module for Intel® Pentium® 4 (Socket 478/LGA 775), Xeon® (Socket 603/604),Celeron® (Socket 478), Celeron® D Socket 478/LGA775), AMD Sempron™ (Socket A/754), Athlon™ XP (Socket A), and Athlon™ 64 (Socket 754/939/940) processors.

3. High cooling performance

* Copper-based water block for excellent heat dissipation
* Selectable high-performance radiator with 80 x 120 x 45 mm and 120 x 160 x 35mm dimensions (Designed for chassis with 80x80 / 120x120 mm case fan)
* Enlarged radiator for higher heat transfer efficiency

4. High reliability

* Low evaporation ratio thanks to special opaque and heat-resistant elements in the pipe
* No refills of anti-icing fluid for two years guaranteed (Testing environment: Ambient temperature 45C and humidity 50%)

ATTENTION: Warranty void if any preinstalled components are removed

5. Longer life expectancy

* Fan-restart function: a self-protective feature that allows the device to smoothly initiate a restart if the fan malfunctions
* Fan speed control: Selectable super-silent 80 x 80 x 25 mm VR fan (1,800 ~ 3,800 R.P.M.) and 120 x 120 x 25 mm VR fan (800 ~ 2,800 R.P.M.)

6. Design patent information (patent pending)

* Three-in-one module (pump, tank and CPU water block) saves time and is more convenient

Packaging and bundle

The Aquagate Mini R120 is supplied in a large cardboard box, more than enough to protect it during transportation. The design of the box is very good, with a large picture of the Aquagate assembly at the front and thorough specifications at the rear. The package which we received was quite abused during transportation, but none of the contents were damaged.

The Aquagate Mini R120 can be installed on any CPU available since the Pentium 3 era. There are 5 installation brackets inside the package which allow the waterblock to be mounted on most motherboards available. There is a K7/P3 bracket, a Xeon bracket, an AMD K7/K8 bracket, a socket 478 (Pentium 4/Celeron) bracket and finally a socket 775 bracket for the latest Pentiums and Core 2 Duo processors. For the K7/P3 systems, you first should make sure that your motherboard has holes. Not all of the brackets require the included backplate, but in any case, unfortunately you will have to remove the motherboard in order to install the waterblock.

Inside the package you will also find a fan for the radiator, along with a simple round fan guard. The fan is branded to be a Coolermaster fan and is specified to draw 0.5A at maximum speed, which results 2800RPM, over 100CFM and also over 35dBA of noise. Fortunately, Coolermaster was kind enough to attach a rheostat to the fan which you can install at a single PCI bracket inside your case and control the fan speed all the way down to the dead silent 800RPM.
