The Cooler

The Revo appears to be similar to several heatpipe coolers, but in reality it is entirely different, It is using “SilentFlux” to circulate a cooling gas between the radiator and the base of the heatsink. “SilentFlux” is a kind of pump, using natural force to circulate a cooling dual component gas (basically R134a) inside the cooler.

Basically, it works much like a water-cooling system but has no moving parts, using a coolant gas instead of liquids with the side effect of being more compact. Additionally it is lightweight, the sizeable Akasa Revo cooler weights only a little over 300gr including the fan, making it lighter than the Intel stock cooler! As you can probably imagine from its very low weight, the Revo is entirely made out of aluminum.

Socket 939/AM2 and socket 775 mounting brackets are included in the package, as well as a tube of thermal grease. The retail version will have a manual as well, but we did not receive one with this engineering sample.

The Revo is using a 92mm fan to cool the radiator. The 92mm fan’s speed is PWM controlled so it can be anything between entirely silent and extremely noisy, depending on the CPU temperature.

The fan is also placed at a small angle on the radiator, which leads to two advantages. First, part of the fan’s airflow will cool down the surrounding motherboard parts, and second it severely reduces turbulence which would lead to noise.

At the side of the radiator you can see a sticker indicating that it was made in France, its manufacturing date and time, as well as the logo of the company who made it. Vehicle enthusiasts may recognize the logo. The radiator is made by Behr Gmbh, the German based company who manufactures cooling and heater parts for vehicles and whose products are very commonly found into cars and motorcycles of every vehicle. If you own a classy German car, you can probably find something with the same logo inside it.

The base of the cooler we received was very smooth and sanded down to a mirror finish with minor imperfections, these will not affect the performance of the cooler and will probably not be present on a retail piece.
