A couple of weeks ago we looked at the Athlon64 FX-51 and how it compared in single channel mode to the Pentium 4, Athlon XP, Opteron and Athlon64. The result was that the AFX and p4 were the clear leaders however neither really established its dominance. So today we take a look at the 2 leaders and see if there is a clear winner when the Athlon64 FX moves into dual channel mode. We’ll also take a look at how well the FX-51 overclocks.
For those who missed part 1 of the review you can read it here Test Systems: Amd Athlon 64 FX-51
(2249Mhz) Pentium 4 3.0Ghz The test system was built from scratch, a format of the hard drive was performed (NTFS) and then Windows XP was installed. Following the completion of the install the N-force or Intel Chipset drivers were installed. The only updates applied were SP1a and Direct X 9.0b. Following a reboot the Detonator 53.03 drivers were installed. Next the benchmarking tools were installed and finally the hard drive was de-fragmented. For all tests the ATI and Nvidia drivers were set to best image quality. Good Benchmarking
