Zotac 8800 GT 512MB Amp! Edition
Zotac have went with some dragon artwork for their 8800 GT box and it bundled with the “AMP! Edition” moniker. The packaging is informative, with many of the main specifications listed and a window on the back of the box which gives a good view of the cards cooler, which also features a dragon. The Zotac bundle is shown below and is the least impressive of all the cards we are testing today - only the essentials are provided.
As we mentioned above the Amp! Edition heatsink features a dragon and this gives the card an impressive appearance. We feel the green PCB detracts from the aesthetics as black would have looked much better within this concept.
One aspect of the appearance which is not immediately noticeable is that the fan is an LED unit which glows orange and if paired with the right components looks extremely sexy.
Zotac have went with the reference specifications for the outputs, so we find one single PCIe 6 pin connector on the back of the card, with two dual link DVI’s and a TV-Out in the front.
Rather than the reference 600MHz core, 900MHz Memory and 1500MHz shader; Zotac are using 700/1000/1700 respectively, which should give an impressive performance advantage over other models.
One final point is that the memory on the Zotac card is Qimonda HYB18H512321BF-10. These chips are rated up to 1.0GHz which means they are running within specification. In the past we have seen manufacturers use heavily overclocked (out of specification) chips on their special edition cards, so the fact Zotac have went for higher quality memory modules deserves special mention.
