Quake Wars

Quake Wars is the only test in our review to use OpenGL. The engine has MegaTexture technology which allows Splash Damage to create some nice outdoor environments with the Doom3 engine. Testing was performed at 1920x1200 with 8x anti-aliasing and 16x anisotropic filtering. All game options were set to their highest level.

Playing with 8x anti-aliasing is something which no “mainstream” card is usually capable of but we were curious to see just how close our products would get. The average frame per second result was good for each card and the maximum frames per second were also impressive. Minimum framerates were where the four cards separated out and XFX’s card was once again the top performer with a four frames per second advantage over a stock clocked 8800 GT. ATI performance was not great with the two cards struggling to get out of single digit figures.
