Crossfire, The Bad

After the good increases in Crysis and Call of Duty 4 we were beginning to think that Compatible AFR might well be the technology which made multi-card systems worth buying! This began to look unlikely as we tested further games; the first was Gears of War. In this test we saw a reduction in performance which made the game unplayable. Image Quality was fine but the framerates were low enough to cause constant stuttering.

Tiger Woods 08 started where Gears of War left of and performance in CrossFire mode was again lower than the single card results. There is not much which can be said other than something was going very wrong with ATI’s new compatible AFR.

As we began to test other games in our review suite more issues became apparent, mostly regarding stability and image quality.
