Infinity Ward has chosen to remain with DirectX9 and some highlights include excellent smoke effects and wall textures. We are testing at 1920x1200 with 4x anti-aliasing and 16x anisotropic filtering.
There are clearly two levels of performance in Call of Duty 4, that offered by GeForce cards and then the Radeons. The stock 8800 GT is on average eleven frames per second ahead of the 3870. The gap is not quite as significant on the minimum frames per second statistic but the major difference is that the Nvidia based card provides completely smooth performance whereas the Radeons do not.
XFX’s XXX card is able to increase the performance difference and with almost ten frames per second in hand (above the recommended 25fps) there is clearly an option to increase the resolution if you have the appropriate display.
