PC Specialist are a UK based company who concentrate solely on custom PC builds for consumers that do not have the time or expertise to create a system themselves. Trading since September 2003 they may not be the first name that comes to mind but this does not mean they should be ruled out if you need a prebuilt. Using their web configuration tool it is possible to create a system to match your dreams (or budget!) and one such system is the Apollo.

Even though comparisons will be made, our intention is not to directly compare ATI against Nvidia in this article, but more to see how both leading ultimate solutions will run on a system which should in theory be less CPU bound than most. To further downplay the side effects of the two Quad processors affecting the results, we have watercooled both CPU's and overclocked them to 4.4ghz (400x11). This will let both graphics solutions stretch their legs at the highest resolutions.

It must be a daunting experience setting up a small company to manufacture PC’s aimed at enthusiasts, after all you are entering a marketplace featuring well established companies such as Dell/Alienware and Voodoo PC, who all have decent reputations for building high end systems at competitive prices. Regardless of the scale of this undertaking that is exactly what Uberclok are doing.
A small company based in Chicago with five employees, Uberclok are specialising in pre-overclocked systems for consumers who want mainstream components with ultimate performance. There are currently two models in the Uberclok range, the Ion and the Reaktor. The Ion starts at $1660, the Reaktor at $2500, each with numerous configurations to take the system as high in performance as possible.
Today we have a Reaktor system on our test bench configured at a cost of around $3600.

The next generation of gaming came into full force this month seeing the releases of both Sony’s PlayStation 3 and the Nintendo Wii. The PS3 and Xbox 360 have a bitter rivalry because they are both regarded as technical powerhouses, and because of its less powerful components the Wii is often called “a GameCube on steroids”. While it certainly won’t outperform the other two in benchmark tests, what the Wii lacks in power it more than makes up for innovation. After trying out the Wii, we found it to be so much more than a creative system with a ridiculous name.

The Aurora is being powered by the excellent AMD FX-60 and Nvidia's extreme high end NV 7900 GTX running in SLI, thats 1 gigabyte of lightning fast video memory combined with the best gaming processor currently available. The chassis is one of the meanest and most stylish ive seen, it is finished in a piano black style veneer - HR Giger would be proud. The only downside to this is you need to keep polishing it as you will find after several days there will be fingerprints all over it.

Whilst Alienware are great at producing high performance systems for the gaming and home markets as well as mobile parts these don’t meet the needs of everyone and that’s where today’s product comes in. The Alienware MJ-12 is a workstation system designed for tasks such as 3D modelling, Photoshop and even video editing. Think of the most demanding tasks you would throw at any designer or developer and you pretty much have the work Alienware have build this system to handle.

Small Form Factor systems are continuing to grow in popularity, and rightly so, a well built SFF should in theory be more than capable in fulfilling all your computer needs with the minimum of noise and deskspace. We even published an editorial showing you how to create your own, however we know some of you don't either have time or the skills to do this and want a high end prebuilt system to your specifications .....

Before receiving this product for review I was extremely sceptical about how well a Small Form Factor PC would handle my needs, both as a performance user and as a reviewer. The nature of my PC use demands that I use the latest components which as well as drawing a lot of power and creating a lot of heat always stress the other parts of the system to their limits. I just didn’t think a machine as compact as this would be able to handle it… lets see if I was right or wrong
