My Dell Demension 2400 Has A Slow Boot Up!!!!!
Hey There
my dell demension 2400 has a slow boot up!!!, my pc loads up in about 8-10 minutes. i dojn't have any kind of spyware or viruses on my pc!. but i'm not sure if there's a worm slowing down my computer. my pc has all stock parts!!, my ram is 256mb. i was also woundering would a small amount of ram be making this slow boot up on my pc!!?? if anybody has any answers to my problem PLEASE post a reply!!!!

Wow, eight minutes? That's definitly bad. Having more RAM would deifnitly help but let's try and lighten that load Ok, first things first; we have to determine where most of that boot time is. Is it during, or before the Windows boot up? I suggest your first start by cleaning/removing programs from Startup. There are three main places to verify these settings.
1. Start menu/All Programs/Startup
Delete all un-needed programs in here. If it's in this menu, chances are it's not system critical and should be safe to remove.
2. Start/Run...
Type in "msconfig" and hit enter. Now head to the "Startup" tab. This is the list of programs that start with Windows. Uncheck the programs you don't need. If you're not sure what a specific one does, Google for it.
Once that's cleaned up, head into your "Services" tab and check the box on the bottom which should read "Hide all Microsoft Services". What remains are other programs your PC launches when you boot up windows. Note that these are usualy more important than other startup items so don't remove items unless you are sure you will not need them.
Now that should usualy take care applications that hide in your Windows bootup. There is another way to check but that would involve digging into the registry. Other than that, it might be a BIOS setting but I'll wait until your reply before I dig into those. Also be sure to run a Defrag and check for Spyware and Viruses by using applications such as Ad-Aware, Spybot Search and Destoy and Trend Micro or AVG Virus Scan. Hope this helps.

my computer spec's are:
2.4ghz celeron prossesor
80 GB hard drive
256MB RAM
3d extreme graphic card
CDRW DRIVE
WINDOWS XP HOME EDITION
~THATS ALL FOR MY SPECS OF MY COMPUTER!!~

Download tunexp and try out it's boot speed up tweak. Works great. Also do a defrag if you have not done so, and check your device manager for any conflits

Could you have does a messy install of motherboard/graphics drivers? Have you updated them recently?

I recommed get new ram at least 1gig like I have  and Cheap 200 graphics card. that 3d extreme would slow computer down too becaues it's using borrow graphics ram from main ram memory. And upgrade your power supply at least 450 watts. and DVD-RW burner then you computer acts like a new kitten.  |

From looking at Dell's site that it is not a Rev.D Celeron so it is the old 128kb cache version and it also on an 845(GV?) chipset with that integrated videocard. Anyways this may help others solve your problem. I am no master an boot times, but I do know my hardware. Upgrading the PSU on that might be a pain since he can probably only go through Dell and PC power and cooling (not to cheap) because of that dell proprietary thing since most are that way.
