not really. look at the mail-in rebate.
i hate advertising shit like that. its misleading. you think "$112 OH EM EFF GEE!!!" but really its still 162 and you probably WONT get your rebate check.

rebates almost never work. They really dont.
Maybe newegg is honorable, but I'm not going to expirement with it unless I am buying something and the rebate doesnt influence my purchase.

Gemmy : FYI
OK, here is the rundown: - Order placed the afternoon of 6/18/05.
- Order received the afternoon of 6/22/05.
- Rebate request placed in the mail on 6/23/05.
- Rebate check received today, August 25, 2005.
So, I did get a retail Audigy 2 Platinum for $112, in a reasonable amount of time.
Good going, NewEgg & Creative.

I'm puzzled as to why some people hate rebates. I've never, repeat NEVER had a problem with getting any rebate.
I think that some folks just skim over the requirements, and that's the problem. Make sure to read EVERYTHING, and follow the instructions exactally and I think you will have better luck.
Another thing to remember is that almost all rebates are handled by someone other than the actual retailer/mfgr, so even if you do have rebate problems, it's not really their fault.

We tell customers to expect it to take 6-8 weeks, and I actually fill it out for them in the store if I'm nto overly busy and backed up

I got something back from mailing in a rebate, it will take a long long long time so dont expect to get it in the mail the next week, it took months for this one rebate we did at a compusa.

Should never say never! Now you've jinxed your next rebate...
I've gone inside a Best Buy, and was eyeing a particularly good hard drive rebate, when this person behind me chimes up telling me to not get it because of all of the bad rebate experiences he's had with the chain.
I agree I find it odd so many people seem to have problems with them, as I've done more rebates to turn a few bucks on ebay than most people I know! The only bad thing I would have to say about rebates is that you are just short the cash for several months... Although one tip I can give, is that I've found if you send off the rebate the very day you get it, which in my case is often the day the promotion begins, that it will cut down the waiting time immensely.
And I think you have a valid point on the second paragraph. Almost never do people seem to realize it often isn't a rebate from Best Buy or whichever place they bought from, but the original manufacturer! If you have a problem ya should go to them instead.
