Way too damn expensive.. I'll buy an ATI card @ $300 or so (X800XL) in a few months, and be happy with that until it gets too slow to play current games...

I'll wait till they're really cheap and get one. I'm happy with what I have for now.
Now, when those X2 processors get a little less expensive, I'm gonna be right there in line for one.

Ati,s next card should be able to trounce it it theory. I think i will wait.
I skipped the last gen as i had a 9800pro and only a 17 inch monitor.
If anyone wants a glimpse of what the card should be capable of they should look to the Crossfire eddition of X800 PE's that broke 15,000 points. The cards were overclocked to hell at 900mhz each.
The R520 is rumoured to be clocked no less than 700mhz and have 32pipelines like the 2x X800xt-pe's.
Taking into account that ATI will have(hopefully) an optimised core will/should/almost make up the 200mhx difference between the two systems. This makes me think that a 32 piped version should at least be bordering around 1400 points in 3dmark.......even 13 should be great...................right..........
http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=24203
The inquirer posted this where it states that if ATI have a 24 piped core around the same level as the GTX then it should be a difficult race. I think that if the 32 piped version can handle 13-15k in 3dmark 05 then the 24 piped version should be able to handle 9-11k in 3dmark05
it seems only logical.
If that is the case then i think i will wait for the R520, even if it is 24piped.

I'm going to play the waiting game, Im planning on getting a new Motherboard and CPU soon, and once Nvidia drop the 7800GT/Vanilla, Ill probably get that, as £400 is a bit over my price range for a graphics card :P

I'm very content with my X800xl. It is fast enough for me, plus I see no need to get a new motherboard/processor so that I can upgrade my graphics card again.

im happy with my x800xt PE...
the 7800 is not THAT faster than the 6800 so it cant be THAT faster than my current card....
my next purchase will probably be a Crossfire X800xt pe.... because it sounds really promising... unless the R520 is really a WOW'er... but i dont think i have the money at the moment for all of these upgrades.....
until i cant play games at MAX aa and MAX af at 1600x1200 or 1 resolution lower.....
im not upgrading
thats just my opinion

I'll wait for next models. Once new generation is being touched by common folk, it will rain new cards. I'll choose whatever seems good option at that point, definetly nvidia.
This 6600GT just ain't enough for me(it's bottleneck for my computer) and I feel like I'm having amd64 3500+@ for nothing. Buying another one for SLI ain't working with every game, and I couldn't use high resolutions with that combo anyway. I have viewsonic 22" flatron and I use 1920x1440 85hz, I don't like playing games with 1024x as I do now, with everything maxed(except AA).

I can't even afford another 512MB of RAM let alone a new graphics card.

while i agree with everything elsa you said, this card is faster than 2 6800 gts in sli. & it WILL get faster. ghiven that this is mainstrem production right now i think nvidia still has room with this series.
unfortunately the cost ratio vs actual need for this kind of power just is not there.
i also think you will see significant price drop by the time ati is actually able to put r520 on the shelves(they will be competatively priced). & this(7xxx) platform will be more mature driver/manafacturer wise.
i think we have some interesting times ahead of us as far as the nv/ati competition is going.

I'm happy enough with what I have. Right now, there is exactly one game I have which could take advantage of SM3 stuff (SC: CT), so I'm going to wait probably 'til the next generation of cards past the 7x00 or ATI's R520 series. We'll see, if some new killer games comes out, maybe that will change....

No way i'm putting down that sort of cash. I'm going to upgrade finally to an athlon 64 in a couple of months and see what this 7800 series card does to the price of the 6800 series. When that drops, i'll buy an ultra! (single...no SLI....i'm po')

on one of the demo machines at work, we swapped out the 6800GT and put in a 7800GTX. The quality of gameplay did increase significantly. BF2 doesn't studder as much, and the other games installed have increased their FPS by an average of 20 with AA/AF increased from 4x/8x to 8x/16x. So the performance of this card is quite impressive now that i have seen it in action me thinks.
