The Logitech MediaPlay mouse.
Love this thing, great for my laptop in every way. The battery life in itself is outstanding(Reaching from 3-8 weeks on my rechargables), the performance is perfect and has never waivered from my expectations. This mouse has performed flawlessly in every circumstance I've placed it in, and the USB connector, ideal for laptops, matches the skin of my laptop. Also, it's the size required for maximum in mobility. (Like, two inches or so from connector up.)
Excellent mouse. I've only owned Logitech; so, my opinion may contain bias. However, if I was to choose a mouse outside of Logitech, it would most definitely be Microsoft...as I know others who have used this mouse that I've had the fortune to use for short periods of time and found that it was a reliable mouse.

i don't use the software, just the stuff that windows XP install by default...
never use software that comes with a keyboard or mouse..... what's the point?

Because if you don't half the buttons don't work and arent configureable as in the case of some of the logitech mice that have more buttons than a keyboard.

Logitech mx310 optical mouse here, in the market for a new one soon though, I go through mice pretty often, I don't know why, but my previous 3 mice were microsoft intellimice, and my logitech has lasted longer than all 3 intellimice put together.

I replaced my Logitech MouseMan Optical about 6 months ago with a MX1000. The old mouse had served me great for 6 years or so and I hope the MX1000 will last just as long.
My only complaint is the scroll wheel which can be a bit twitchy sometimes. It should have more resistance and more noticeable clicks, like the MX510 has. Other than that it is fantastic.
I don't know about the newest MS mice but every time I've put my hands on one before I have really hated the buttons. They are too easy to click unintentionally. Maybe I'm just too clumsy but it annoys me a lot!
