Audigy 2 ZS. Would prefer to use something else, but whenever I've used anything other than creative cards, I end up with stability issues.

audigy 2 in both machines. not a fanboy either, but think they are the best bang for the $$ as far as sound quality/stability goes right now.

I have an audigy 2ZS, decent card, not all it's cracked up to be but not a bad card. I personally loath Creative and their corporate practices, however there's not enough choise out there right now to compare hardware wise....

I left creative for poor latency and PCI bus hog.
I think a decent sound can easily be achieved with any card (including onboard sound cards). Spend your money on speakers.

Did I mention that speakers are important?

Anyone here besides me that uses an audigy card (I currently have an audigy 2 zs, but it was the same with my audigy 2) experience a strange clicking or snapping sound from time to time? It almost sounds like the 'click' explorer makes when you click on a link, but a little slower and louder. it seems to usually happen when I start a video game or start playing a song (I use a variety of media players, the player doesn't seem to make any difference). Anyway, I have Logitech Z-5500 speakers, only a few months old, sound great, I'm sure it's not the speakers becuase this was happening before I got them. Anyone? It's kind of wierd and very annoying.

speakers are important, but not any more so than the source & processing unit. i have paradigm home speakers & a yamaha integated amp hooked up to my comp and so far the audigy2 is head & shoulders above any other card/onboard setup that i have had(not saying that i have heard everything).
spending $$ on just speakers is counterproductive.

onboard is usually quite garbage... sound isn't exactly great and preformance tends to be poor (but hey, they are a hell of alot better then a few years ago, just still not as good as a sound card)
Source audio is always number one, you could have the worlds best amp with the best speakers with the best filters you name it, but the sound quality coming through them from a poor sound card or onboard sound will be garbage.

Creative has made decent hardware (at least since the Live, maybe the AWE64, the older SB's had really crappy DACs), and they've lead the way with EAX and sound integration with games. I've been happy with the Audigy and now the 2ZS, but the drivers are huge and very intrusive in terms of processes lingering around.
I'd be a lot happier if Creative issued Unified drivers that worked on their entire range (or perhaps just on the EMU10K and later), rather than custom-writing PlayCenter vs. MediaSource vs. the control panel/whatever for each card generation. People with a Live! or Audigy 1 would be better served, but there are some neat hacques out there, mentioned earlier in this thread, too...
Audigy 2ZS, Paradigm mini-Monitors, center, & surrounds, Velodyne F1000 sub. And an Outlaw Audio Model 1050 6.1ch amp.

Yes, I have an Audigy 2. Wouldn't say I'm a fanboy though, I hate creative's software and driver "updates"

Use to use creative, it's sitting in one of my many boxes of unused computer components.. but with the Asus boards and the onboard sound being pretty decent there's really no need anymore.
