I voted for DOOM 3, I like HL2 alot but the whole steam thing and the fact of the disapointing end the game had. You think they could of came up with some sort of better ending, and I never had a prob with the graphics in Doom 3 and it was ment to played on Nvidia. I did have numerious probs with the charters and water in HL2 and it was meant to be played on ATI which I have.

Kinda late but I'm surprised Painkiller wasn't on the list.
It was pretty close between Far Cry and HL2 with me as well. However, HL2 won simply because it plays better.

Voted HL2, though the ending was... somewhat disappointing.
My second choice would've been Far Cry.

I voted Far Cry, For it's time the game blew me away in terms of AI, graphics and the world size. Half Life 2 is also excellent.
Far Cry was way ahead of it's time

i voted HL2. but i think it's unfair to vote for HL2 when that's the most recent game most of us are playing. people (in general) vote for the most recent thing that they've come across because it's the freshest thing in their mind.

I tried to install the demo for Far Cry and never managed to do so. Thus I did not vote for it.
I installed the demo for DoomIII, I did manage to install it but the game was running at about 1 frame per 20 seconds. Thus I did not vote for it.
I want very much to play HL2 since I believe it is a probably a great game, but I refuse to join the steam program. Thus I did not vote for it.
For the other two I have only played the demo of CoD expansion pack and though it was nice and worked great on my laptop, the game I found too restricting. It was giving you instructions every few seconds where to go and if you did not follow them to the letter you got killed. I did not like or vote it for that.
the Medal of Honour game, I have only played the demo of the first game and though it was fun I did not buy it. Or of course this expansion pack. Thus I did not vote for it.
Painkiller (the demo at least) was great and could compete with the above, but even if you did put it up there I wouldn't vote for it since I did not buy/support it for the copy protection it uses. No program including game will ever tell me what other software I can have installed. BTW, I do not have any of the non compliant programs, it is a matter of principle.
Currently re playing No one lives for ever 2.

H-L 2 is something and maybe the best but still.......
Farcry redefines FPS shooter and introduce a lot of things to the genre

It's Far Cry for me because it came as a surprise, has the slightly more impressive engine, a fairly fresh multiplayer experience and does not come with the chain-and-ball named Steam. I'm still enjoying HL2 a lot and its pure singleplayer gameplay enjoyment is the highest, while Doom 3 is behind on all points except maybe adrenaline.

Well you guys forgot one VM:Bloodlines,so I had to vote for Farcry, any company who requires you to connect to the net to activate a game won't get my money or a vote.Doom3 would be my third choice.

HL2 is a fantastic game and I voted for it as my favorite fps of the year. I'm one of the few who is not bothered by Steam at all. Then again I don't get too bothered by much at all anyway. Between HL2, CS:S and the mod community for HL2, it will defintely be the most solid gaming investment of the year.

i honestly really like steam. other than the buggy friends list i don't see anything wrong w/ it. easy to use interface, skinnable, and nice game browser/downloader.
anyways, i liked farcry up to the point when the gigantic beasts that took 100 shots showed up. i love HL2, i love ravenholm...so yah, hl2 got my vote.

i`m voting Halflife2 , because it plainly just rocks , and the steam distribution is excelent news for gamers , cos it means cheaper games ( not having to pay that distributor TAX ) and enables ppl in parts of the world without stores that sell retail copies of the games to purchase them online.
yes i`m sure it sucks having to login and not being able to cheat the system and play the game for free but hey i`m happy and so are the millions of others who have played hl2.

kalx are you kidding? It is NOT going to mean cheaper games for now or the future. The companies have used the piracy card as an excuse for more expensive games since the world was spinning. Mark my words, Valve is not going to start releasing games at lower prices than it would if there was no Steam. ALSO, if you notice, many people are against steam not because of difficulty to cheat or play the game for free. Not everyone is out there to steal games. I am against piracy, but also against Steam.
IMO if you want to see a good digital destribution way then check totalgaming.net You can buy their games, download them, copy them to cds if you want, and no need to A) tell the company when you want to play SINGLE player their game, B) to contact them again if you want to reinstall the game that you have copied to the cd. Plus all the other "usual" goodies like if you lose the cd or the downloaded files you can easily just re download the games without any extra charge etc. I am not against digital selling of games or copyrights, but I am against this total lack of privacy that Steam has plus the stupidity of what happens if you either have no internet connection in the future (broken lines, moved house etc) or if Valve goes belly up.

half life2 was 28 pounds , doom3 was 44 seems cheaper to me.
i have no problem using steam to play hl2 , its not an issue i find worth worrying about.
There are more important arguments to life than worrying about a handy app to keep all your valve games uptodate.
Protest about starforce 3 not steam , that is something that really causes problems for gamers.
