Re: Nvidia 285 GTX and 295 GTX

Great cards , especially 295 Gtx that made nVidia on top now and forced Ati to lower their MSRP 4870X2 prices ( finally nVidia began to compete in prices ).

I think that will accelerate Ati steps towards the next competetive card.

Nice cards, but I couldn't spend that much money on a GPU again, even if I had it. The review is tops, as always.

Nice review.

Looks like GTX285 SLI is the pick of the bunch, but I wouldn't say no to Quad SLI if you made me :P

BUT LOOK AT THOSE 4870X2 THERMALS!

Nice cards but a bit out of my price range. Despite the thermal issues of the HD4xxx series still interesting to see in some benchmarks that a single HD4870x2 can outperform the GTX 295 Quad

The prices are truly insane, but if there's demand there's supply. I notice as I read this thread that my pride and joy rig is the worst of any member to post so far.

The difference in performance between ATi and Nvidia in different games seems to be widening atm, which makes purchasing choices easier for some and harder for others. Personally, I think it just demonstrates that both firms have a long way to go with their drivers.

I look forward to reading, in less than 6 months, the 58** review, and not long after the GTX3**, and then watching Crysis finally be crushed by GTX4** HEX-SLI, and so on and so forth while "old" high end prices spiral downwards. Moore's law FTW!

Re: Nvidia 285 GTX and 295 GTX

I agree on drivers man and I think a lot of the differences we see between them are driver related and how the hardware is managed .. not necessarily the hardware itself.

Nice post BTW man

I voted not worth it, not because I don't consider them good cards, but because I have a 4870X2 and they are not worth it to ME.

I voted "great cards, can't afford". Because since I already have the 4870x2, I'd have to build a new system around one of these babies, and that I couldn't afford.

Re: Nvidia 285 GTX and 295 GTX

Love my Nvidia cards but I can't shake the feeling that DX11 is just around the corner so had to vote 'Not worth it'. Now I know lots of people will say that new cards will be out by then but i'm still using two 8800GTS so that gives an idea of how long I like my cards to last.

Edit: been reading a 5 page in depth article on DX11 today in a magazine and it further adds to my worries about the DX10 285-295GTX's. New DX11 has some interesting features so I think i'll hold off buying for now.

Re: Nvidia 285 GTX and 295 GTX

Hehe, it's funny that two others have that same sentiment - already have an X2 (now two actually). Despite the slightly lower scaling, I'm more convinced by the stability of the HD4870X2s at 2560x1600 when AA is applied.
