Re: How much ram have you installed?

4gigs ddr3 on my comp(vista64) & wanting to go to 8gigs sometime this coming year.
2 gigs ddr2 on my wifes comp(vista32)
1.5gigs ddr on laptop (xp pro)

and im with you Z, win 7 in 32bit really makes no sense on any level.
outfits like dell want 64 bit, if for no other reason than mem is one of their bigger profit margins.
32 bit is becoming obsolete, as it should. my bet is that the work was already in place & they figure the ywill get uninformed peeps to 'upgrade' to yet another 32 bit system.... without informing them that their brand new comp with 3-12 gigs of ram isnt going to perform the way it should.

and to think... likely in another 4-5 years... we'll be grasping the 128gb ram mark as being the norm... if not sooner...

Re: How much ram have you installed?

4GB since about 6 months before the release of Vista. Going from XP x64 to Vista 64-bit was great, cleared up the vast majority of issues I'd been having.

Would like more RAM, but my motherboard doesn't support it, and I'm sticking with my current rig until absolutely need to replace it.

agreed. I was baffled when they mentioned 7 could have 32-bit support still.

As for ram:

6GB for gaming PC, 4GB for HTPC, and 2GB in my MBP.

DDR3 with a Pentium D?

Wouldn't the money be better spent on a C2D?

4x1Gb in my mac pro, enough for now, though I may upgrade to 8 in the future (and i'm still only running vista 32 on the windows side)

and just the default 2gb that came with the macbook air - it'll be enough for my needs on the go

2gb across the board in the main, HTPC and lappy.

That's only for now until I can decide what part is getting bought first. It's either 4GB of 1066 or a new vid card depending on what's wrong with the one I have

what i find funny is that any pci card you stick in any machine will allow up to about half of the total memory to be used by the video card for memory..... which seems insane when you fire up dx and find 8gb allocated and available for video memory.... which seems incredibly absurd.

Ran XP x64 on 1.5Gb of RAM for a while and loved it. it was alot better than standard XP pro for general respnsiveness and boot times, but maybe that was because i looked after it more ill never know.
I have 4GB of RAM right now with Vista x64, will never use a 32bit Operating system for my main computer again, obvioaly will have to with legacy machines but they are really not the point :P. i would love to have 8GB or even 16Gb of RAM though, just for the hell of it!

Presently running 6 gigs of G-Skill 6400 (800). Will be running 8 gigs sometime next week of G-Skill 6400 (800). Decided memory was really cheap right now that I might as well add the extra memory. Present O/S is Vista Home Premium X64 and Windows 7 X64 in dual boot configuration. Seperate hard drives.
