Good deals are available my friend, pick your components, build your system and go buy an OEM copy. It set me back £70 or so for home premium and i'll probably get 7 years out of it. £10 a year I think I can stretch to that. Add another card for SLi in a years time and i'll be quite happy for 2 to 3 years.

That was me. I totally hung on to Windows 98 SE - I loved the "Exit to DOS" option. Plus, all my games ran fine - even the old DOS ones - didn't need DOSBOX, but do in XP.

Somehow I doubt 35% of the people that voted actually have a Geforce 8800.

I'm not excited about DX10 at all.
I'm staying with XP until there is no other way. Maybe in one or two years when the first Vista SP and some DX10 games will be released. Then MAYBE I will install Vista. vLite tuned installation of course

none of the options seem to work for me, I'm not really excited, but I don't have a console and I will be getting a whole new rig soon... Maybe I should be?

Yeah, I'm just not all that excited about DX10 at this point, like others have said DX9 is just fine for me add to that the fact that I just don't have the cash to drop down on a DX10 card right now and I am perfectly happy with XP and DX9

What does DX 10 really offer besides a unified shader architecture? Any new effects? Other types of acceleration?

As a programmer, I'm pretty excited. I'm waiting for the mid-range and low-end DX10 cards to appear. Then I'll probably get one and play with DX10. From a gaming POV, I hardly game these days (just a little City of Heroes), so I'm not all that excited.

Meaning what exactly? Semi coherent sentences make debate much simpler.

I'm guessing he's excited by DX10, but the ATi fanboy in him is showing through
I would be excited, but I can't afford a rebuild anytime soon, so I voted for the second option.
