Religious Debate
I dont know if there are a lot of religious people here but the forum says political and religious debate so I want to have a religious debate, about christianity mostly. I was a catholic most my life cause my parents forced me to be one, but then I grew a brain when I hit 15 and started to think for myself and now I'm an atheist. If there are any christians here, tell me why you believe in god and give me some reasons why I should believe. I want to see what you have to say. Just a friendly debate, I dont want to piss people off or anything.

Always been without religion and I've never had problems...
Good reason to believe in god though? Well if you don't believe in god and he ACTUALLY exists, when ur dead ur in deep sh*t. If you believe in him, well you didn't loose anything.
Good reason not to? No proof except some dusty book according to christians... And you get to "sin" all you want

Unfortunately some people need to believe in a greater being, that there's a "grand plan". They need to feel that they belong.
Im not one of those people.

True... I think one of the scariest things for a human is to think "I don't have a purpose" somehow. I know I was born cuz my parents got nasty. I have no "destiny"

Most Christians are not bad people. The church has lost all its power and most Christians are comparatively moderate now - or at least here they are.
Our Science head of department is a Christian and he's also my chemistry teacher. It was interesting when he was teaching us organic chemistry and in particular the bit about fossil fuels.
I can honestly say hes one of the best teachers Ive ever had.

If only Christians and Muslims (Muslims in particular) would learn something from their Far Eastern counterparts.
When was the last time Buddhists set fire to a Daoist temple.

Actually, if you ever watch some of those "world's most amazing videos" shows, there was a video about buddhists fighting over a temple and it started a huge riot. They were throwing rocks and molacov cocktails at cops and the other buddhists. Thats if you live in America, I dont know if they have those shows in other countries.

I guess you could say im a religious person - i didn't join any church until i was 19 but have never doubted or regreted my decision. I've never been finaticle, but i did serve a 2 year mission for my religion. (Voluntary with no monetary compensation)
And for the reason why i believe - I asked for and answer and recieved one
its never been more than that, sure ive had my doubts through trials and tribulation (the latest was haveing to go through 3 liver transplants for a genetic disease) but i always return to the beging - i asked for conformation and i recieved my answer.
Its all a matter of personal testiomony - and people will always comment the reason people believe in god is because they want to - well of course its that way God doesnt want a faithless follower. Just look what happend to Cain

I think you're going to find this a stale debate. No one is going to try to prove to you what you should be. It's up to you, and you made your decision. I'm a christian myself but you believe what you like. If you are not messing around in my personal affairs I don't care. Sandok & myself have already went a few rounds on this subject any way.

Yes we have and it always turns out cold and useless and just a waste of LOTSA typing. Always good to know though that people aren't the same everywhere and I enjoyed the long posts but honestly, there is no real solution
You believe or you don't.

As Penn and Teller say, we are surrounded my thousands of dumb people in today's world. The bible was written in a time when people were even dumber!

Though I like the show...
Yeah dumb people. The same people who built the pyramids. The notion that some one from a present time is less intelligent is truly dumb.

They're not talking about dumb in terms of personal intelligence. Rather, they're referring to humanity as a whole's knowledge about the way the world works. At least, thats what I gather.

Sounds like my mother when she was growing up- only now she is not an atheist, but a baptist.. I think the same about Catholicism, pretty hard to believe.. and many things do not make sense either logically or spiritually. No reason to become an atheist, but every person is different.

yeah my mom was probably the worst, she tried to be an exorcist when my bro kept drawing pentagrams all over the house. Also she forced us to go to church every sunday and is practically crazy now.
I could never be Catholic, never in my whole life. I'm goin to tell my kids you can do what ever the hell you want just don't be Catholic. I would rather be an Athiest than Catholic.

They are not my stories but should have at least been exposed to Able and Cain. The were brothers and Adam and Eve's children after they were booted out of eden.
I still believe the bible should be studied in English classes as one of the greatest literary examples. Not because I may think its a great teaching tool, but anything that has caused billions of people to believe it should be studied and not just ignored because its the politcally correct thing to do
So on one hand its true and it is a book about Us and God
On the other it fooled billions and should still be studdied.
To ignore the bible is just like throwing away knowledge. You can't make a strong point to oppose Christianity without reading it first. So any anti religion or christian things are void until you study both sides. If you only read up on your side of an arguement you will neverthink you are wrong and therefore become an absolute moron.
So if anyone feels like they wanna bash Christians, read the bible and get back to me...
