I'm cool with Canada, but 10 bucks says that the US is friends with Canada just because we don't want communists/enemies right above us.
As for this whole political issue that's being discussed... Like some people have already mentioned, no nation is perfect. Politics is politics; corrupt and vile. There is almost no politician looking out soley for whatever he represents; personal gain is nearly ALWAYS an interest of politicians.
If any of you are versed in The Republic of Plato, you know that Socrates (Plato speaking through him) mentions the Philosopher-King Paradox which says that there will always be problems in society as long as our rulers are not philosophers. In order to have a near perfect society, either the kings (rulers) of society must become philosophers, or philosophers must somehow become kings. Both of these situations are highly unlikely.
Plato also says that a democracy is the most dangerous form of government. Funny enough, democracy comes from the greek word "demos" which means "the mob" or demons. So, democracy is a government ruled by "the mob" or demons.
Now, I do agree with Plato on these points about the Philosopher-King and democracy. However, seeing as how a Philosopher-King will probably never exist, then I think that democracy is the best form of government that exists today.
And to all you American bashers, so what if we voted for Bush again? So what if our president is an idiot at times? So what that we spend tons of money on our military? The straight truth is: we got it better than you! We have the largest economy on the face of the planet, we have the largest military on the face of the planet, we have tons of natural resources, we have a vast amount of land, etc., etc.
Maybe that's why everyone hates us. Just because our president is a bit goofy doesn't mean that our whole nation sucks, it just means that most of us wanted Bush back, whatever the reasons may have been.
