CAPITAL PUNISHMENT-is it still necessary

Since the beginning of recorded time we have found clever and creative ways to punish men and women for crimes against the state, and we revel in the act of watching the punishment, that is human nature. But is it time to completely abolish capital punishment altogether?

your thoughts...

The only reason I agreed with you to torture is because what ever a criminal does to a person to get into jail, should be done to them.

an "eye for an eye" isn't always the best solution, nor could it be the answer.

say for example: you have 3 kids all girls. one of them is murdered. now, the murderer only has 1 boy. you can't really have his one boy killed, for it is a boy and not a girl. though you can wing it and say "one of my children for one of yours".

another example: you drive a $50k sports car, and somebody vandilizes it and costs you a fortune to get fixed. their car is some beat up clunker that barely runs. you cannot ensue (sp?) the same amount of monetary damage to their vehicle as was done on yours.

These are just two examples of many different possible scenarios that "an eye for an eye" will not work.

Though, punishment is still necessary i feel. Serving life behind prison or recieving the death penalty for the murder of your little girl from my first example would be deemed appropriate for me. As for the vanalizee, again, time behind bars for the vandalism committed ontop of a lawsuit from the victim of the crime again seems appropriate to me.

i say that if one commits murder WHILE IN THEIR OWN STATE OF MIND(not under the influence of massive ODs on narcotics, etc), they should be killed...plain and simple.

Those killing people while "under the influence" of drugs/alcohol/etc should be given life, sans perole

....and I also think anyone caught smuggling crack, weed, heroine, etc, should be asked to use all the drugs they are caught with on the spot ....j/k

Its been abolished in most developed countries and even many American states.
Im against it because...
-Innocent people are executed
-Its simply state sanctioned murder
-It dosent work as a deterrent

Life imprison is a far harsher punishment in my opinion, In addition they should be used as forced labour. We need someone to make our numberplates.

I also think that if someone is intoxicated/high etc then they should face the full force of the Law. If they choose to get drunk/high its their own fault and therefore should face the FULL consequences of their actions.

Well how I would punish the guy who murdered the little girl, is to murder him the same exact way he did it to the girl. If the girl was raped then he should also by a wooden pole or something that would be just as harsh. This goes for those who ahve killed, beaten, or raped.

Edit: The insane who have commited murder and use insanity as a way out (whether it is true or not) should recieve the same punishment. Insanity is no excuse for murder or rape. The death penalty should be applied to rapists, sexual predators, murderer's and anyone who has commited a serious violent crime. More pressure should be put on the justice system to make sure innocent men and women do not end up that way. The only people in prison should be thieves of some sort or people who have not done a direct violent crime.

As for under the influence, if it is proven an accident then it is, but if is blamed on the drugs side effects and the person willing took the drugs or alcohol, then they should recieve death. I'm tired of all this bullcrap the world tryign to pressure America to be like them. If we had a no tolerance for brutal crimes then this country would be a much better place to live.

This will cause people like this to think before they act, would I like to be killed or tortured this way? raped?. I believe it will work and crime will drop dramatically within a years time.

No mercy for those who do such crimes towards humanity and their fellow humans.

This is a very difficult question to answer for myself, because I do believe in Captial Punishment but under the proper circumstances.. just like abortion, I think it all depends on the situation at hand. I feel that anyone who kills someone out of rage and has had similiar problems before with aggression and not caring about thy fellow man/woman should be killed by capital punishment in whatever the government deems fit for this specific individual. The same goes for abortion, if a woman/women gets raped, she/they should be able to get an abortion without any second thought. But let's say for an example that someone steals something from some innocent person and it breaks up into a scuffle and the innocent dies because the person robbing him/her has a family too feed and will do anything to make sure his children have something to eat or drink (survival) and has known no other life then the life he was given then I don't think that Capital Punishment should come into play in this specific situation.. again it all depends on the circumstances. I know you wrote something before about child molestation and for that specific case, and in this matter and matters of the same I think that the accused/guilty person should be put into general population of a jail and live the rest of his life being beaten and pissed on rather then getting an easy ride out of life.

Peace

Depending on the circumstance I totally support capital punishment. Prisons are way overcrowded as it is, why should any gov't support individuals who have committed grievous acts and crimes? I can understand trying to rehabilitate a thief but a child murderer/rapist?

If someone commits a crime so severe, and so evil and abhorrent that they can never be released, then it is a waste of resources, and maybe cruel to them, to incarcerate them for a "life MEANS LIFE!" sentence - unless the idea is that they should suffer, in which case, they should be breaking rocks for as long as they are fit to.

Or, as in one or two films, have a secure place that serves as a "dumping ground" for all the scum, with just enough resources to survive on.

Well I believe that has more to do with the justice system, which think needs to be completely re-done.

Welcome back Damage.

I'm all for the death penalty, but not for the 'wishy-washy' lethal injection. That's too damned easy.

1. Punishment.
2. Execution.

According to the laws of the states who practice the death penalty, duely sworn law officers carry out the sentence. They either volunteer or are picked for this position, although most volunteer.
I'm for the death penalty. When I was 7, I saw my sperm donor blow my mothers head off. He got 20 years to life. Now, someone tell me how some uninvolved jury or judge gives someone 20 years for killing the one person in life they've actually signed a contract, in most states, to "love, honor, and cherish". You'd think, given the mitigating factors that he raped her dead body, then emptied his weapon into her vagina, that he would've gotten a more harsh penalty. He died in a hospital when I was 21. His body was riddled with many different diseases, including cancer and emphysema. For me, though, it wasn't nearly painful enough for him. I speak from experience...an Eye for an Eye..period.

That is so awfull I could never imagine how bad that is for you. But is it right to take any life? Make them "Suffer" YES.....Not the way jails "look after them" because of the, "Courts of humanity" show these people the humanity, that they show others. "What goes round comes round"

Kill 'em all. Let their respective deities/whatever sort 'em out. In a cost saving effort I think 3 quick taps from a .45 to the back of the head is about all that's needed as far as theatrics. They could even already be occupying their burial spot when this takes place. Making the honest people that were lucky enough to escape a murderers wrath, pay for their room and board is ridiculous. Thinking they learned anything except how to avoid getting caught a second time if they're released is pretty laughable too.

^^^ I agree 100% but I think that the legal system needs to weed out some of its problems, take for instance Illinois which in the early 90's found 18 people on death row were innocent due to the advances in DNA technology.

I am all for capitol punishment - but the thing im againts is if a person is sentenced to death. Kill him for $%%&^ sake dont keep him on death row forever.

And leathal injection, firing squad, electric chair - all bad !!!!
we need to harvest the convicts - give heart, lungs, livers, skin, eyes to those who are waiting for them - Now Body Parts was a horrible movie, and i doubt that would ever happen in real life - trust me people who have been waiting years for an organ will not care if it comes from a convict.

all organs will be rendered usless in all other ways of execution - harvesting is the way to go !!!

I think yes and no.

I think optimally, we shouln't have to have a capital punishment. But as the system stands now, life imprisonment is absurd. Free healthcare, food, fairly nice living conditions, and you even get to hold a job to make some money. This is all paid for by tax-payers that have done nothing wrong.

I think that prison life should be a horrible spartan existance. Then, we wouldn't need Capital Punishment, because living 50 years in prison would be way worse.

Fortunatly most UK politicians disagree with you, which is fortunate really, the state has no buissness assainating its citizens. Despite the fact that innocent people get sent to prison all the time (and as a consequence are murdured), as a deterent, it fails to work.

Makes sense.
Even though im against capital punishment if we are going to kill people we might as well put their body to good use.

Other than the constant threat of rape and violence, lack of freedom, wonderful food choices, lack of companionship, degrading and humilitating existence, and complete lack of control over basically any aspect of life, yeah, I'm sure prison is a wonderful place to be.

And for all you "kill 'em all" proponants, is this the need to protect society speaking, or pure desire for revenge? Is revenge a proper motive for a so-called "christian country's" government to take another human being's life? I'm sure Jesus would agree.
