it is a work of fiction, but does pose some interesting theories.

I think the church is full of shit, but many of the things in the Da Vinci Code are lies. They are proven to be lies, like the rose line thing (I forget exactly, been a wile sense I did some research on it.)

the 'rose line thing' is not proven to be a lie. there is no definitve proof either way.

Interesting that the church is now in the business of debunking fiction novels using its own fiction novel as it's basis for 'fact'. If anything they'll only lend more credence to the claims in the book that they wish to contest and help the author sell more copies.

The Da Vinci Code does not contain lies, and neither does it contain truths. But what it does, it raises some very interesting questions and theories, some of which might have been hushed by certain organisations before. None of the theories have been proven false thus far, and of course none of them have been proven true also.

But what the church does here, is shoot itself into it's own leg by starting a war against the book and it's theories. By doing so it has only brought more focus on the book and it's theories, and why would the church bother with some fiction book unless it contained at least a hint to something... they wish to hide?

like I said, maybe the church is trying to do this to themselves. You think about how long something has been around and how much knowledge it has, then you start to understand the moves they make. There is a reason other than bashing this book for them to wake from their silence. Perhaps they want the eyes of the world inward on the church for reasons unknown. If you think the Church is dumb, you are severly mistaken. The Catholic is smarter than any other government that has ever been around, that is why they have lasted so long. I think the Catholic church is a true waste of time and money but that does not matter. You have to assume and find the benefits the Catholic Church could benefit from this and look so linear to they are digging their own grave. They would never do so.

Yeah, I heard from some christian channel hollywood's turning into a movie some time and frankly I couldn't care less, my mother is bothered by this as she thinks this is "demonic" and an attack by satan and says that these are the end times and all but I'm not as religious and jumpy about stuff like that. I'm just interested in getting the new radeon when it comes out and putting it in cross fire.

You know, the Catholic Church tries to suppress tons of stuff. The Da Vinci Code is a great fiction novel and it should be publicly available to everyone. If people believe that the content in the Da Vinci Code is real, than that's their problem; but the Church shouldn't go out and advocate against the book.

The Catholic church has a long history of murder, mayhem, and destruction and forced inculcation of native peoples for the sole purpose of creating a loyal workforce to mine gold. I would say without much reservation and hesitation that the church as really served man....rather than God long before our time will do so long after..

This would be precisely why man invented religion. How else are you going to justify owning another person as property or suicide bombing 'infidels' or killing off another land's native people. Of course those in charge have to count on the rest of us to be ignorant enough to believe any of it. Sadly it seems this isn't much of a problem even in an age where we're supposed to be enlightened past such nonsense.
