Poll: Most Americans Expect WW III
I am curious to see what your views are here.
A new Associated Press poll of American attitudes and opinions has found that sixty percent of Americans believe that World War Three will happen in their lifetime.
Two thirds of the Americans surveyed also said that the use of nuclear weapons was inevitable.
The poll was conducted with 1000 American adults and just over 1000 Japanese adults in an effort to understand the different cultural attitudes towards war, WWII history, nuclear weapons, and Japanese-American relations.

I believe we are already fighting it personally. Is the war on terrorism not a global event that has repurcussions on the entire world as we know it? I really don't think we'll see a "traditional" army vs army war again. We'll see these terror tactics because they are the only hope of third world countries against the western world.

I think that we may be engage in a perpetual war too. There may be an argument over who actually started it - but in the end it is likely that it will go on for so long that eventually these arguments will be forgotten. It is a clash of cultures, a clash of ideals, a clash of moral values and of economics and so on (a lot of third world countries seem to feel - right or wrong that they are being ritually and continually raped by the West).
The problem with saying you are going to 'nuke!' someone is deciding just who you are going to nuke? If you just nuked whole populations indiscriminately, whether they are involved in any wrong doing or not - then you can be sure that your reputation 'would live in infamy' for centuries beyond the end (if it ever did end anything) of such a conflict. The world would view you forever as little better than monsters.

Although I usualy tend to shy away from this (or these) boards, I really do feel that World War III will hit and much sooner than later.

what classifies somethign as a WW is that the entire world (meaning all super powers are at war, or are effected by it).
We are not yet at war, I think WWIII will happen but not that soon, I believe WWIII will be the start of the Apocalypse, and we'll know for sure when it has started.
Also the only way there can be a WWIII is if all countries agreed to no nuclear action. A Nuclear WWIII would be an end to most things as we know it.

what is inevitable is human race's self destruction, which may be classified as WWIII so yes, it could be inevitable.

I'm not american but I also feel a 3rd war rising. If these bombers keep on attacking cities like Madrid, NY and London, it's only a matter of time... -_-

the only two things that are inevitible in life are death and taxes . wars can be avoided so long as resolutions are concieved before anything dark happens

Given what the average american sees in his or her average television viewing session on a day to day basis I'd agree that most americans think they should prepare for nukes. The people that see television news and, nowadays, most other media outlets for the sensationalist crap factories that they actually are oughta know better tho. A handful of whackjob radicals (in the grand scheme of things) does not a world war make.
And how exactly do we nuke people that have already integrated into our own population? its not like the suicide bombers are riding their bikes all the way from Crazymuslim-istan to blow up a bus in london. they already live in london and paris and NY and madrid and anywhere else that's large enough for them to mix in with a healthy portion of non-crazy muslims to attempt to infect with their agenda.

Lol, I have to admit that that makes a lot of sense. It still leaves the question open though of just exactly how do you deal with the threat? I would go as far as to say that even one nuclear bomb does not a world war make - so even if the terrorists were advanced enough to build one (which is doubtful - given that they failed to understand even basic chemistry in the design of their explosives in their most recent attempted attack on London) the most appropriate response is probably not to simply opt to wipe out half of the known civilisations on Earth. That would indeed seem like fairly typical 'Western' overkill.

On another note, here is a 'solution' that one particular congressman is proposing:
Quote:
A Colorado congressman told a radio show host that the U.S. could "take out" Islamic holy sites if Muslim fundamentalist terrorists attacked the country with nuclear weapons.
...
alk show host Pat Campbell asked the Littleton Republican how the country should respond if terrorists struck several U.S. cities with nuclear weapons.
"Well, what if you said something like -- if this happens in the United States, and we determine that it is the result of extremist, fundamentalist Muslims, you know, you could take out their holy sites," Tancredo answered.
"You're talking about bombing Mecca," Campbell said.
"Yeah," Tancredo responded
|
.
Should Mecca, Medina, and Jerusalem, as Islamic "holy" sites be nuked because some people that call themselves Muslims attack? Congressman Tancredo (R-CO) says yes to draconian measures.

a measure like that would only serve to piss off the remaining non-radicals and quite possibly even aid in garnering support for the whackjob side of the issue from outside non-muslim sources as well. The threat or action of blowing up a few mud huts with some sort of religious 'sentimental value' isn't going to do jack shit to stop anything anyway. And the core ideals possesed by the radicals are so far removed from the actual religion that I don't think theyd mind all that much. They'd just turn around and use it as a new chapter in their nutjob training course to help brainwash more nutjobs with a seething hatred of public transportation.
fuck if religion hasnt made a fine mess of our fair planet. if there were a hell (or whatever magical land the bad guys go to in any other given religion) i'd hope that the asshole that dreamed it up was getting perpetually cornholed there right now.

[sarcasm]i know. i know. the CIA in conjunction with insurance companies and FOX broadcasting have all joined forces to exact revenge on a world too complacent to give a crap. Thru mind control, fluoridated water and the mass murder of people that use any mode of public transportation, but especially subways, the inner circle of superhuman secret societies wear down our will to live giving way to the superbeing creatures that really run the world to unleash alien technology upon our fair cities in a final bid to scrub the human seed from the face of the earth.[/sarcasm]
The CIA has already gotten to me. I believe that there is now less crime, less war, less fascism and slavery, less religion clouding people's judgement, less violence, less disease, less Phil Collins, and etc. than any other time in history. In fact I truly believe it's a safer, cleaner, happier time to live now than virtually any other period since the dawn of civilized man. Must be the fluoride .
