I don't think anyone ever said that obesity is excusively a national US problem. But given that some US states are as big as some small countries (as are some of the people in them) I think you will find that what is actually said is that some American states contain the largest number of obese people per head of population anywhere in the world. Basically you have some of the fatest states in the world.
Try digging up some more research and start comparing on a state by state basis, I think you will find that in actual fact you have some really quite lean states - and some that are - shall we just say, not so lean?
We already did this topic on this forum a while ago. It didn't really prove or disprove very much then either.
