I agree with Neon, if the environment, enconomy and relations with the rest of the world are failing. None of this is the doing of Bush. George Bush has just had the misfortune of being president when unfortunate things have happened. The real question is what has he done in response to these events?

neon....do you have any idea how global warming works('The Day After Tomorrow' doesnt count..that was a crock)
Bush may nto be soleyl responsible for them, btu he did MORE then hsi fair share. It was after all, his father who said, when asked about loggin int eh national forests "if you've seen one tree, you've seen 'em all". It is also Bush who tried to get them to drill in the national wildlife refuge in alaska, and I believe it's him too who refused to put a gas guzzler tax on large trucks and SUVs nationwide. So to you and yer quit debunking of scientific fact...i say balderdash! |

The story emerged from some dumb American Republican comic book
http://www.gopusa.com/news/2004/sept...rricanes.shtml trying to take the piss out of another site for making some fairly reasonable points, such as Bush's poor record on the environment, his instance on allowing larger amounts of polutants to be emitted into the atmosphere and his withdrawal from almost every major enviromental agreement entered into in the last 12 or so years. At no time did anyone in that article accuse Bush of being directly responsible for the Florida Hurricans, they only repeat that scientists believe that global warming may one day lead to more extreme weather in various parts of the world. Of course it takes someone like neon to read this and automatically take it seriously. GJ Last edited by raid517; Oct 28, 2004 at 08:51 PM. |

I hate tree huggers.
We need to drill in alaska so we are no longer dependent on these arab peoples that just want to shaft us. precautions are taken so that wildlife is not disturbed...in fact, more wildlife moves in because of the pipelines (the already existant one is an example). we might as well use this resource now, because soon we'll have alternate energy sources and petroleum will be the fuel of yesterday, only used in older power plants and for camping laterns ![]() what would the midle east do if the world stopped using oil? |

i'm hardly a tree hugger...but i do thinkt he environment is important enough to think about. I don't recycle everythign i use or drive a hybrid car or anything...but i do think we need to learn to drive more eonomical cars then the current fad of corvettes and lincoln navigators, and i also think wildlife refuges are a great thign and the oil needs to be thought of as a secondary rescource to the wildlife there and our priorities need to go alogn with that.

Well I'm not much of a tree hugger either - everything green I touch usually dies anyway - but I do think that we have to take note of the potential disaster that enviromental polution casuses. Do you really want to live in a world without environmental restraints, where manufacturers can pump the air full of toxic cancer causing gasses, where they can polute the rivers and drinking supplies, where they can feed live stock full of bulk building steriods and other drugs, which then can be fed to pregnant women resulting in potentially horrific birth deformities, or premature miscarriges? What would a world free of environmental controls look like? If it was left to industry alone it would certainly seem that it would quickly become a pretty barren, noxious and extremely unpleasnt place to live in. Is that really the kind of environment you want to bring your kids up in?
Global warming is another issue - I think it's hard to tell what will happen 100 or 200 years down the line. But all the same we do only have one planet to live in - and the human population has already reached explosive levels. It would be nonsensical to say that it is impossible that our presence here could possibly have an impact on our environment - because all we need to do is to take a look around us to see that it already has. Whether human influenced global warming it is real or not, large scale climate change is a reality that we know has occured many times in the Earth's past . Unfortunately this has also always been followed by a period of mass extinction too - so if it does happen we may end up being pretty much screwed. However what scientists are saying is that it is possible that we could affect this process in an adverse and irreverable way - and that really it is just as stupid to take the risk and kick over the whole barrel of apples now - without having any kind of care for what might happen in the future. You think nothing of looking after your home. Surely it makes just as much sense to look after the world in which we live too? It seems to me that often a lot of Republicans don't seem to care about the future. They only seem to care about the here and now and what they can get for themselves. I have never quite understood this. What use is your monster SUV if you eventually have to wear a gas mask and several layers of sun block to go outside to drive it? No matter how selfish you are, if you do want to enjoy these things for the long term - caring about the environment makes just as much sense for you as it does for anyone else. GJ |

bush my be evil but its impossible for him to do so much economical damage in 4 years but he is certainly damaging it to the extend where in the future if his carelessness does continue it will be a hell of alot worse then 3 hurricanes.

Neon you do realize the people who say thigns like that are the few select idiots that happen 2 support kerry, sooo who cares. As for the drilling for oil in Alaska mentioned, why don't we just switch to god damned alternatives things like, *GASP* electricity for fuel on cars. We're running out of oil and the enviroment is important to.

i hate bush. but how can we blame a human for something caused by mother nature.
i mean really.and even if he is environmntally unaware, we cant blame only one person on global warming. we have to blame the people who caused this to happen in the first place and the people still contibuting to the rise in the atmosperic temperature.we cannot always rely on our leaders all the time. leaders may intiate such rpogrammes to change things but we the ordinary people are the ones who actually do it. |
