The Debate
What did Kerry pull out of his pocket at the debate?

Dunno, maybe scrap paper. Neither candidate signed the "Memorandum of Understanding" though. Is there any footage of Bush stepping to the podium?

Yeah, maybe glasses for reading. I'm sure they aren't covered. Anyway Kerry may be many things, but I doubt he's a magician. If he had been writing notes it would have been pretty visible.
Seems a tad trivial to me. Is such a memorandum even real? Maybe bush could have used a pen himself - though he might have needed an aid to show him which way up to hold it. GJ |

Seems that would hinder a debate more than help it. I mean, you wouldn't be able to spring any suprises on the other guy without him knowing about it first.
A memorandum of understanding is hardly a legal doccument anyway - and even if Kerry did use his own pen (or lucky pencil) it still seems like a pretty trivial offense - since as you say note taking was allowed anyway. Whatever these guys think it was, I doubt it was some kind of weird psychic debate winning device beaming answers and clever retorts directly to Kerry's brain. He has already shown he is a very good one on one debator in the past, not wooden or mechanical like Gore was. He has a sharp mind - it is just his gangly body that seems to take a while sometimes to catch up with it. Those great big oversized limbs seem a tad awkward, but he does have a sharp mind particularly in a debate - of that there is no doubt. More than anything I think he has just suffered from bad advisors - or maybe he ignored the ones he had a little too much. GJ |

It was his picture of Jesus that he likes to look at for inspiration.

Wouldn't Jesus be banned from that kind of debate?

Maybe it was a Voodoo doll of Bush. Maybe it was Kerry jabbing it through all Bush's answers that made him look so awkward?

Then again, possibly for once, on the scale of political scandal of maybe one to ten, no one really gives a shit.

Well he did. I mean by definition if he won the debate, he also won the argument. But did he win any votes? That's another question. How many people on the basis of this debate are likely to change their vote? My guess is possibly not enough.

john kerry just isnt known enough. nobody knows anything about him...he feels like a stranger to most people, that's not the kind of person you want. i also think they messed up his campaign alot by pushing his vietnam record...which clearly caused more trouble than it was worth IMO.

So you tie them up and knots and there is no debate at all any more? Lol... That's about the size of it I think.
Tonights debate could be more interesting though. The young dynamic lawyer goes after Al Vampire - erm Donald Rumsfeld.... Lol, all I know is you wouldn't want him scraping at your window on a night. GJ Last edited by raid517; Oct 5, 2004 at 06:47 PM. |

Freaking hell, I'm watching tonights debate - all those rules. I thought you were joking. Why can't they just slug it out together? I mean be polite and not hog the mic etc, but some cross examination would be cool.

Tonightes debate? score=1:1. Edwards could have made more of it, Cheney was nervous to start, but Edwards looked like he was a nice guy who lacked the killer edge. (Or lacked experience?)
Some of his arguments were kind of old. GJ |
