Exactly, we are no more violent over here, we are just better at it when we want to kill someone....
But STILL- per capita, the US has a much lower violent crime rate than most people think compared to European countries. And on top of that, we probably report more of them too. So who knows what the REAL numbers are. But the starts don't lie, so no more "America is violent and we arent" BS.....

I don't have the numbers for stabbings in the UK as opposed to the US - but I do think it is probably overstated:
But anyway lets take a look:
Source: http://www.police999.com/stats/crime2003-03.html
UK Metrapolitan Police National statistics.
In 2002/2003 we had 1045 cases recorded as homicide out of a population of 60 million that's roughly 1 murder for every 60,000 people, or about 1.9 per 100,000.
In the US in 2002/2003 there were 15000 deaths by homicide for a population
of about 29260000 which is about 1 death for every 20,000 people, or a true homicide tate of 5.6 deaths per 100,000 meaning effectively that you are almost 3 times as likely to die as a result of a violent crime in the US (per head per capita) than you are in the UK.
This equates effectively to an increase in excess of a 250% likelyhood that you will die as a result of a violent crime in the US as opposed to the UK.
Source: http://www.whitehouse.gov/fsbr/crime.html
So I guess your argument about per capita crime rates don't really hold water.
Like I said we can play this game all day and all night if you want.
It doesn't worry me.

Just do a search for "UK population" "statistics" and another one for "US population" "statistics" quotes included.
Make sure you search exclusively the google.uk and google.com sites (select search sites from the UK only" for UK related statistics).
But Just to help you along with the UK , you can try the UK National Statistics Office:
http://www.statistics.gov.uk/cci/nugget.asp?id=6
The rest is just a case of simple mathematics. I'm not trying to cook the books if that's what you mean. I deliberately only chose sources I knew even you guys couldn't refute.

Nah nothing about cooking the books, just with that site you gave I couldn't find the numbers you were using at all. I was extremely tired.

Oh well... You know you almost strike me as a decent fella, desite our somewhat different perspectives...
I've ceratinly encountered a lot more unreasonable types here in the past.
The ability to listen to reason doesn't always seem to be a natural republican trait.

That's because I'm more...moderate. And it isn't a trait often found in democrats either. One thing I've noticed about Americans, it isn't about being republican or democrat, it's about being right. Both sides feel they're right, in America we have nice groups that people join up where all they do is re-affirm the thoughts they already have and make themselves feel better, smarter, and more self righteous. I'm pro-choice, but not because I think it's the womans choice, I just think we'd be a lot worse without it.
When I told my friend (bird chest) I wanted to be president of the USA he said I won't be elected, because my political views weren't trendy enough. I don't stick to either side, and even if I side with something, it's usually not for the same reasons they do.

Lol I could think of a lot worse things to call you than 'unreasonable'. But for the sake of remaining civil that will do. Mind you if you ever did want to do either of those things - and if you ever decide to sell tickets - well just let me know.
Well anyway, you made me laugh. For you that's definately a first.

Yes, a country must be doing good when the citizens kill each others in ghettos.
