A gun control effort is underway in IRAQ, the coalition is attempting to disarm IRAQI citizens

this is simply not going to work, I cannot imagine that it would in any realistic fashion, it is like trying to disarm americans, absolutely foolish. This will backfire on a monumental scale, I hope they are successful but Saddam reinforced the gun culture to his people, taking them away will no doubt lead to battles and conflicts to rival those that occured during the invasion.

There is a trade in weapons that has been going ona in IRAQ long before we emerged on the scene. If there is anything that will polorize sentiment agains a democratic government it is defintely thist

Huh? There is no developed nation in the world with an affinity for firearms that matches that of the USA. Why would nations that deny gun ownership to their own citizens care about US/UK efforts to disarm Iraq?

our reputation for hypocracy among middle eastern nations would be reinforced, I am not against some form of gun control, but IRAQ has evolved into a gun culture on a level not far removed from frontier america. My point is that, we can take all their weapons away, but they will simply replace them with new ones from IRAN and SYRIA, or perhaps even AFGHANISTAN. We know there is a criminal element within IRAQ that survived where Saddam failed, If they can smuggle artwork and gold bars out, they can sure smuggle weapons in...We may be writing a check our butts cannot cash..
