Burma warned over cyclone delays

The UN's humanitarian chief has urged Burma to reconsider its attitude towards allowing aid teams into the country to help cyclone victims.

Announcing a $187m (£96m) flash appeal, John Holmes said it was time to act fast or risk more lives being lost.
Burma's envoy to the UN thanked the international community for their solidarity and generosity, saying it would accept aid from any quarter.

estimates put this disaster well over 100,000 dead from disease or immediately from the disaster. After Burma delays more aid and assistance from the international community no doubt Burma will use it as economic leverage or political leverage against dissident groups within its borders. The world is appalled.

the juntas insecurity about their political posisiton is going to cost tens of thousands of lives. it has already cost thousands.
the whole thing is going is escalating as disease from many sources & lack of shelter/food/water/medical supplies for non disease problems continue to kill more & more people.
humanitarian issues aside, these guys are real fkn idiots. the area & people affected are the main source of food for the entire country. things are going to get worse & worse there.. those poor people have my sympathy & i trulyhope when this is all over they will be able to oust the junta.

it's disgusting how people in power will sacrifice thousands of their own people just to keep their power...so sad.
