Al Gore gets a Nobel Prize?
CNN.com readers sound off on Gore, Nobel Peace Prize - CNN.com
(CNN) -- Former Vice President Al Gore and the United Nations' Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change won the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize on Friday for their work to raise awareness about global warming
This is sickening I can see why Mr. Nobel recieved an award, but my God, a buffoon like Al Gore? First the Academy Awards and now the Nobel Prize, is nothing sacred?

If you can think of another person that has done as much to bring to light to the masses, the realities of Global Warming, you should write a letter.
Then again, I guess you would have to believe that global warming is actually occuring, and I think we've had that conversation...

The Economist covers it quite well:
Quote:
IF THE Nobel Peace Prize were awarded for making the world a more peaceful place, then this year’s winners—Al Gore and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)—would be a bizarre choice. But two out of the previous three peace prizes went to people and organisations who had nothing to do with peace. The 2004 winner was Wangari Maathai, a Kenyan woman who plants trees, and the 2006 winners were Mohammad Yunus and the Grameen Bank, a Bangladeshi microcredit institution. (In 2005, in a radical departure from recent practice, the prize did actually go to a person and an organisation whose work has been designed to reduce the likelihood of global conflict—Mohamed ElBaradei and the International Atomic Energy Agency.)
Evidently the committee has decided to redefine the award as the Nobel Prize for Making the World a Better Place in Some Unspecified Way. In that case, Al Gore and the IPCC seem pretty good—though controversial—choices. The IPCC has put together scientific knowledge on the subject in a form comprehensible to policymakers; Mr Gore has pushed the policymakers to take action.

It's a good enough choice. The only people upset are those who don't believe in Global Warming or think this will effect the '08 Election.
IMO, Gore won't run for Pres but if he runs as Hilary's VP there would be no way any Republicans could defeat them.

seriously.....
in light of the past eight years, either Hilliary or Al will just kill the chance of any democrat winning his or her chance at the helm. People dont seem to grasp why Bush won twice at all, its this political myopia that blinds the democrats from realizing what and who is actually running the country.

He's definitely well deserving of such an honor, because he really is making an effort to change the world without imposing too much personal bias on said change. At least he's doing something for God's grey Earth, albeit a bit of banal minutia. We're already sailing home on a sinking ship and with people like himself, the smaller holes seem to get plugged just enough to stop leaking.
If you want some real insight into how much it's really helping for ANYONE to be an environmentalist at this point, watch CNN's Planet in Peril miniseries. It will make you feel bad inside...knowing that the ship will sink sooner than we think.

i think he won honestly because we have been at war with terrorism/afganistan/iraq pretty much since the beginning of his presidential term. i don't think that the american public has ever wanted to change to a new president when there is a war going on. that is unless a president has fulfilled both terms.

Just because you don't agree with him doesn't make him a fool... I mean, "imagine" if you're wrong, then you're the fool and he's the hero? It's all very subjective.
However, lying can be bad. Bush totally lied about WMD in Iraq and that was malicious... But I doubt you'll see it like that

You know, George Bush has done a few good things for us. Firstly, he helped us realize that voting is more important than we really thought it was, considering the fact that if we don't speak our mind, we get stuck with a conservative and barely intelligible simpleton in office. Secondly, he provoked a nation with a quarter of the defensive capability that we have into "war" to drop the price of our most valued resource, petroleum, only to aimlessly kill innocent soldiers and civilians by raising the price of gas.
Oh wait, that last one isn't good at all! GODDAMNIT!!!!! Maybe Al Gore really isn't the anti-christ...

You can define peace in many ways. So, if you think the healing the planet of greenhouse gases, global warming, sea level rise, catastrophic heat, hurricanes, etc. is a peaceful activity, then Al Gore deserves the Nobel Peace Prize.

i think that the award is called the 'nobel PEACE prize' & is meant to go to somebody that actually help make this world a more peaceful place to live in.
while i actually respect al gore for taking a stand on an issue that needs the worlds attention(NOT saying i agree with his view of the cause of global warming cause i dont) & getting out there & actually doing something about it, his actions imo, dont earn him this prize.
while he has done a lot t opromote the worlds awarenes of climate change & that there are many things that need to be done, i look at him as the 'face' of a puiblicity campaign, with all the real work being done by scientists & other hard working people behind him.
