Well I don't give a burning bush (or should that be a flying fig?) about 'prophesy' one way or another Jeff. I'll tell you what's obvious though. In 25 years you can look to the East - and to China for an indication of where the next Superpower is going to emerge. All Superpowers wax an wane, wherther China is still communist (is it really still communist now?) or not, this is a country with the potential to take on the whole world if it wanted to. It will be a weird state of affairs to have a real eastern superpower that everyone in the west will have to deffer to, but it is as inevitable as the sun rising over the East each and every moning. You are right though, you should never write off the russians. People have spent centuries doing this and they have spent centuries too paying the price for this mistake. Who knows... In 50 years it won't be my concern anymore anyway....

50 year will be upon os quicker than we think, I agree. there will always be wars and rumours of wars. But you know the hard working folks that I know have a kernal of faith that the put into everything they say about the war, they have loved ones in IRAQ, and it is pretty hard to listen to them painfully address the issues that this war brings into their lives...I did it, went to two wars, lost friends, and lost respect for my leaders many times, but I keep the faith. can really be taken seriously, China is a country that would have already been a superpower if it was going to be. Just because it is big and they have a few nukes doesn't mean it is inevitable that they will be a superpower all the world will have to "deffer" too. They will play a mojor role in the future, but I highly doubt they will give us anything to worry about. Wht do you think it is inevitable that they will become more powerful than the rest of the world?

China, is an incredible threat, based on it's size, resources, WMD and it's influence all over the world..all they have to do is invade Taiwan, that would unhing many carefully constructed arrangements with other countries. The government, responding to economic and political change may seem docile compared to some countries, but they represent a credible threat on all levels..

Oh I totally agree China is a threat, no question about it.
I just don't think they are going to be the next inevitable "superpower" as was stated. They also know that world war III with nukes would not be a good idea. I think even N. Korea knows that, that is why it is more a diplomatic issue than Iraq was. Saddam was crazy enough to use those weapons if he got them, which he was trying to do.
It also takes money and economic power to become a superpower. China has many problems to solve before they reach that status.

Well I disagree, if all it takes is money China will be right up there with the best of them in 25/30 years. If there's one thing the Chinese are good at its how to spend their money. And Chinese people are probably the hardest workers on Earth, so the have the balls to get there. Its complete pap to say that if they were going to be a superpower they aready would be. Up until 15 years ago China was a genuinely communist state. Economic super power and Comnunism are not (in case you didn't know) entirely compatabile ideals. 15 years to get to where they are now is no short feat at all.

Oh and BTW, they don't just have a 'few' nukes. They have frikin thousands of them, so I don't think its wise to write them off so readily. As I said, even if this govenment does fall, nothing will quench the Chinese people's love of hard work and money.
